MEMPHIS — A Sheriff’s Office Corrections Deputy was charged today for robbing a Memphis credit union last week. Phtosa (correct spelling pronounced TOE-SAH) Dennis, 42, of Memphis, was arrested last Friday afternoon by officers with the F.B.I. Safe Streets Task Force. The task force is comprised of the Federal Bureau of Investigation (F.B.I.), Shelby County Sheriff’s Office and the Memphis, Bartlett and Germantown Police Departments.
Task force Officers say Dennis walked into the First South Credit Union at 3731 Austin Peay Highway last Tuesday (February 2, 2010) and initially stood in line as a customer.
When Dennis stepped up to the counter, she handed the teller a note that demanded money. However, the teller ran from the counter when she saw Dennis had a gun.
With no teller at the counter, Dennis grabbed the note and ran out of the business. During the escape, she dropped her gun. She recovered it and then sped away in a gold sedan.
Dennis is a Corrections Deputy at the men’s jail at 201 Poplar. She hired on in 1997 and has been relieved of duty with pay while the investigation continues.
Dennis faces charges of bank robbery and carrying a gun during the commission of a violent crime. She is being held at the federal holding facility in Mason, Tennessee. No bond has been set.

MEMPHIS (LPL) — Una oficial de la oficina de Correccionales del Sheriff ha sido acusada el día de hoy (martes 09) por el robo de una sucursal de Credit Union de Memphis ocurrido la semana pasada. Phtosa (pronúnciese toi-sah), Dennis, de 42 años, originaria de Memphis, fue arrestada la tarde del viernes pasado por oficiales de la Fuerza de Tarea Calles Seguras del FBI. Esta Fuerza de Tarea está compuesta por el FBI, Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Shelby y los Departamentos de Policía de Memphis, Bartlett y Germantown.
