Mississippi teen charged with stabbing newborn daughter to death

BATESVILLE, MS (WMC-TV) – A 16-year-old Mississippi girl has been charged with murder in the death of her newborn baby, Panola County Sheriff Otis Griffin said Monday.
According to Griffin, 16-year-old Linda Nash stabbed her baby to death.
Griffin said investigators were called to a local hospital Saturday night when baby was brought in. It was already dead.
“Her parents were the ones, along with herself, that brought the child to the hospital,” Griffin said.
According to preliminary autopsy results, the baby was stabbed in the abdomen.
“It’s an empty feeling that you feel. It’s a void that’s there,” Griffin said. “I hate to see things like this. This is something you don’t see everyday.”
The baby was allegedly killed at the home Nash shares with her parents on Pope Water Valley Road in Pope, Mississippi. Authorities said Nash’s parents didn’t know she was pregnant.
“I would say that she possibly could’ve been hiding it from the parents,” Griffin said.
Neighbors couldn’t believe it.
“That’s something you can’t hide,” neighbor Amos Harrison said. “These young girls, they get out and sew their wild oats, but they don’t want to reap the harvest.”
Jessica Bobo, who gave birth to a son when she was 15, said she couldn’t imagine why a young mother would commit such a horrific crime.
“I knew what I was doing when I got pregnant with him,” Bobo said. “So if I would’ve killed him, I deserve everything that I get.”
The crime sent shock waves through the small community.
“It’s the worst thing we’ve ever had,” Harrison said. “Never anything like that here.”
Nash is being held on $100,000 bond.
NOTE: Officials initially reported to the media that the baby was stabbed 11 times. That report was later changed to say the baby was stabbed once.

BATESVILLE, MS (WMC-TV) — Una jovencita de 16 años de edad, de Mississippi, ha sido acusada de homicidio por la muerte de su bebé recién nacida dijo el lunes (feb.01) el Sheriff del Condado de Panola, Otis Griffin.
Según Griffin, Linda Nash de 16 años de edad, apuñaló a su bebé causándole la muerte.
Griffin dijo que los investigadores fueron llamados a un hospital local la noche del sábado a donde la bebé fue llevada de emergencia. Pero la nena ya estaba muerta.
“Sus padres fueron, junto con Linda, quiénes trajeron a la niña al hospital”, dijo Griffin.
Según los resultados preliminares de la autopsia, la nena fue apuñalada en el abdomen.
“Lo que se siente es una sensación de vacío. Es un vacío que está allí”, dijo Griffin. “No me gusta ver cosas como ésta. Esto es algo que no se ve todos los días.”
La pequeña habría sido asesinada en el hogar que Nash comparte con sus padres sobre Pope Water Valley Road, en Pope, Mississippi. Las autoridades dijeron que los padres de Nash no sabían que ésta estaba embarazada.
“Yo diría que posiblemente las acciones se suscitaron porque podría haber estado intentando ocultarlo de sus padres,” dijo Griffin. Los vecinos no podían creer esta historia.
“Eso es algo que no se puede ocultar”, dijo el vecino Amos Harrison. “Estos jóvenes, salen y plantan su avena loca, pero no quieren recoger la cosecha.”
Jessica Bobo, que dio a luz a un hijo cuando tenía 15 años, dijo que no podía imaginar por qué una joven madre querría cometer ese horrible crimen.
“Yo sabía lo que estaba haciendo cuando quedé embarazada de él”, dijo Bobo. “Así que si le hubiera matado, me merecería ser castigada.”
El crimen causó conmoción en la pequeña comunidad.
“Es la peor cosa que jamás hayamos tenido”, dijo Harrison. “Nunca pasó nada como eso aquí.”
Nash está en la cárcel con una fianza de $100,000.
NOTA: un principio las autoridades informaron a los medios que la niña fue apuñalada 11 veces. Ese informe fue cambiado posteriormente al decir que la bebé fue apuñalada una vez.
