Teresa Méndez, de 25 años, y Uriel Cruz, de 26, residentes del Condado de Lafayette, están acusados de dos cargos de abuso infantil grave.
El 30 de mayo, agentes de la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Lafayette informaron que fueron llamados al Hospital Baptist Memorial en Oxford por un niño de un año que presentaba varias lesiones inexplicables.
El niño tuvo que ser trasladado al Hospital Infantil Le Bonheur debido a la gravedad de sus lesiones, informaron los agentes.
Durante una investigación de seguimiento, Teresa Méndez y Uriel Cruz fueron arrestados e ingresados en el Centro de Detención del Condado de Lafayette.
El 2 de junio, a Méndez y Cruz se les denegó la libertad bajo fianza durante una comparecencia ante el tribunal. Permanecerán en prisión hasta la audiencia que se celebrará en una fecha posterior.

MS Hispanic couple charged with abusing 1-year-old
(LPL/WREG) – A Hispanic man and an Hispanic woman are now behind bars after a one-year-old was found with unexplained injuries last Friday in Oxford, Mississippi, according to the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office.
Lafayette County Residents Teresa Mendez, 25, and Uriel Cruz, 26, are both charged with two counts of felony child abuse.
On May 30, deputies with the Lafayette County Sheriff’s Office say they were called to Baptist Memorial Hospital in Oxford regarding a one-year-old child who had several unexplained injuries.
The child had to be taken to Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital due to the severity of their injuries, deputies say.
During a follow-up investigation, Teresa Mendez and Uriel Cruz were both arrested and booked into the Lafayette County Detention Center.
On June 2, Mendez and Cruz were denied bond during a court appearance. They will remain in jail until the hearing at a later date.
