UTEP President among 40 Influential Leaders Appointed to Mexico Bicentennial Committee

The year 2010 has special meaning for Mexico—it is the bicentennial of the country’s independence and the centennial of the Mexican Revolution.
The University of Texas at El Paso’s president, Diana Natalicio, Ph.D., has joined a distinguished group of 40 individuals appointed to the Mexico Bicentennial Committee in the United States.
The appointment represents an ideal opportunity for Mexico and the appointees to promote the country’s history and culture, but also to increase awareness of the ideals and strong bonds between the United States and Mexico.
“I am deeply honored to have been invited by Ambassador Sarukhan to serve on this Mexico Bicentennial Committee,” Natalicio said. “UTEP highly values our longstanding relationship with Mexico since our establishment as Texas State School of Mines in 1914. Nearly 100 years later, we continue to be proud of our many Mexican alumni and students and our collaborations with sister universities and research centers across Mexico. This is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate those many connections.”
Natalicio accepted an invitation to be part of the committee from Arturo Sarukhan, ambassador of Mexico to the United States.
The committee brings together a distinguished group of artists, scholars and cultural promoters. Natalicio joins fellow appointees such as New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger, California State Rep. Loretta Sanchez and President of the Carnegie Corporation of New York Vartan Gregorian.

El año 2010 tiene un significado especial para México—es el bicentenario de la independencia del país y el centenario de la Revolución Mexicana.
La Presidente de la Universidad de Texas en El Paso, Diana Natalicio, Ph.D., se ha unido a un distinguido grupo de 40 individuos seleccionados para el Comité del Bicentenario de México en los Estados Unidos.
El nombramiento representa una oportunidad ideal para México y los seleccionados promoverán la historia y la cultura del país pero, también, contribuirán a hacer más visibles los fuertes lazos entre los Estados Unidos y México.
“Me siento muy honrada al recibir esta invitación del Embajador Sarukhan para servir en este Comité del Bicentenario de México”, dijo Natalicio. “La UTEP tiene en gran apreciación nuestra larga relación con México desde que se estableció la Escuela Estatal de Minas de Texas en 1914. Cerca de 100 años después, seguimos estando orgullosos de nuestros muchos estudiantes y alumnos mexicanos y de nuestra colaboración con las universidades hermanas y centros de investigación en todo México. Esta es una maravillosa oportunidad para celebrar todas esas conexiones”.
Natalicio aceptó una invitación ara formar parte del comité que le dirigió en Embajador de México ante los Estados Unidos, Arturo Sarukhan.
El comité reúne a un distinguido grupo de artistas, académicos y promotores culturales. Natalicio se une a los otros designados como el Gobernador de Nuevo México, Bill Richardson; el Gobernador de California, Arnold Schwarzenegger; la Representante Estatal, Loretta Sánchez y; el Presidente de la Corporación Carnegie de Nueva York, Vartan Gregorian.
