Maestra de Collierville es nombrada como «Maestra del Año» de todo el estado de Tennessee

(LPL) – Jenna Burke, maestra de STEM de Sycamore Elementary School, en Collierville, fue seleccionada como la Maestra del Año de Tennessee para el ciclo escolar 2026-27, anunció el Departamento de Educación del estado durante su ceremonia anual de Excelencia en la Educación.

Burke forma parte de Sycamore Elementary desde 2017 y ha desarrollado un modelo de enseñanza enfocado en las ciencias, la tecnología, la ingeniería y las matemáticas (STEM), con actividades prácticas que buscan despertar la curiosidad de los estudiantes y fortalecer sus habilidades para resolver problemas.

De acuerdo con el Departamento de Educación de Tennessee, Burke ha trabajado para crear un ambiente en el que los alumnos se sientan reconocidos, desafiados y motivados a participar activamente en su aprendizaje. Su metodología también promueve que los estudiantes vean los errores como una parte importante del proceso educativo.

“Me siento honrada de representar a los increíbles educadores con los que trabajo todos los días”, expresó Burke. “Hay tantos maestros excelentes en nuestro distrito, lo que hace que este reconocimiento sea especialmente significativo”.

La maestra también destacó la oportunidad de continuar creciendo profesionalmente y de ampliar el impacto de su trabajo durante el próximo año escolar.

El reconocimiento representa además un logro histórico para Collierville Schools. Burke es la segunda educadora consecutiva del distrito en recibir el título estatal, después de que la maestra de matemáticas de Collierville High School, Dra. Brandi De La Cruz, fuera nombrada Maestra del Año de Tennessee para 2025-26. Según el distrito, es la primera vez en 50 años que un sistema escolar de Tennessee consigue este reconocimiento durante dos años consecutivos.

Como Maestra del Año de Tennessee, Burke representará al estado en el proceso de selección de la Maestra Nacional del Año y participará como embajadora de la educación durante el ciclo 2026-27.

Otros educadores del oeste de Tennessee también fueron reconocidos. Tabatha DePriest, de Halls Elementary School, en Lauderdale County, recibió el premio de Maestra del Año de la Gran División Oeste. Rebecca Scott, de University of Memphis Campus School, fue nombrada Directora del Año de esa división, mientras que Melinda Hutcherson, asistente de superintendente de Lauderdale County Schools, recibió el reconocimiento como Supervisora del Año de la Gran División Oeste.

Collierville Teacher Named Tennessee Teacher of the Year

(LPL) – Jenna Burke, a STEM teacher at Sycamore Elementary School in Collierville, was selected as the Tennessee Teacher of the Year for the 2026–27 school year, the state Department of Education announced during its annual Excellence in Education ceremony.

Burke has been with Sycamore Elementary since 2017 and has developed a teaching model focused on science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM), featuring hands-on activities designed to spark student curiosity and strengthen problem-solving skills.

According to the Tennessee Department of Education, Burke has worked to create an environment where students feel recognized, challenged, and motivated to actively participate in their learning. Her methodology also encourages students to view mistakes as an important part of the educational process.

“I am honored to represent the incredible educators I work with every day,” Burke said. “There are so many excellent teachers in our district, which makes this recognition especially meaningful.”

The teacher also highlighted the opportunity to continue growing professionally and to expand the impact of her work during the upcoming school year.

The honor also marks a historic achievement for Collierville Schools. Burke is the second consecutive educator from the district to receive the state title, following Collierville High School math teacher Dr. Brandi De La Cruz, who was named Tennessee Teacher of the Year for 2025–26. According to the district, this is the first time in 50 years that a Tennessee school system has achieved this recognition for two consecutive years.

As Tennessee Teacher of the Year, Burke will represent the state in the National Teacher of the Year selection process and serve as an education ambassador during the 2026–27 school year.

Other educators from West Tennessee were also recognized. Tabatha DePriest, of Halls Elementary School in Lauderdale County, received the Grand Division West Teacher of the Year award. Rebecca Scott, of the University of Memphis Campus School, was named Principal of the Year for that division, while Melinda Hutcherson, Assistant Superintendent of Lauderdale County Schools, was recognized as Grand Division West Supervisor of the Year.
