La Banda de Jazz de la Central High School ofrecerá un concierto este martes tras ganar una competencia internacional

(LPL) – Esta tarde, la Banda de Jazz de la Preparatoria Central celebrará su reciente victoria internacional con un concierto especial en casa. La cita es a las 6 p. m. en el auditorio de Central High School, donde la comunidad podrá disfrutar del talento que llevó a estos jóvenes músicos al primer lugar en una competencia de talla mundial.
El concierto marca el regreso triunfal del grupo tras ganar la edición 2025 del prestigioso Festival y Competencia de Preparatorias “Esencialmente Ellington”, celebrado del 7 al 11 de mayo en Nueva York. Este año, el evento conmemoró su 30.º aniversario en el icónico Metropolitan Opera House de Broadway, y la banda de Memphis no solo se llevó el primer lugar general, sino también los máximos honores en trompeta, trombones, sección rítmica y solista.
Durante cinco días, los estudiantes participaron en talleres con leyendas del jazz antes de brillar sobre uno de los escenarios más reconocidos del país. Hoy, ese mismo talento resonará en su propia ciudad.
“¡Qué bien se lleva el sonido de Memphis a la escena nacional!”, celebraron las Escuelas del Condado de Memphis-Shelby en redes sociales. Y esta noche, ese mismo sonido vuelve al corazón de la comunidad que los vio crecer.
El recibimiento no pasó desapercibido: medios locales acudieron al aeropuerto para capturar el emotivo momento en que los estudiantes llegaron con su trofeo. Uno de los miembros de la banda, visiblemente emocionado, declaró a las cámaras:
“Queríamos hacer esto por Memphis. Es nuestra ciudad, nuestra casa. Tocamos con el corazón y creo que eso se sintió allá en Nueva York.”

The concert marks the group’s triumphant return after winning the 2025 edition of the prestigious “Essentially Ellington” High School Festival and Competition, held May 7-11 in New York City. This year, the event commemorated its 30th anniversary at Broadway’s iconic Metropolitan Opera House, and the Memphis band not only took first place overall, but also top honors in trumpet, trombone, rhythm section, and solo.
For five days, the students participated in workshops with jazz legends before shining on one of the most renowned stages in the country. Today, that same talent will resonate in their own city.
“How well the Memphis sound is brought to the national stage!” Memphis-Shelby County Schools celebrated on social media. And tonight, that same sound returns to the heart of the community that saw them grow up.
The reception didn’t go unnoticed: local media went to the airport to capture the emotional moment the students arrived with their trophy. One of the band members, visibly moved, told the cameras:
“We wanted to do this for Memphis. It’s our city, our home. We played our hearts out, and I think that was felt back in New York.”
The educational community and Memphis-Shelby County Schools also celebrated the achievement on social media, highlighting that the group received awards for best trumpet section, trombone section, rhythm section, and best soloist.
