Estados Unidos recomienda autodeportación para migrantes sin TPS por la aplicación CBP Home y así evitar deportación forzada

(LPL/AFP) – El gobierno de Estados Unidos instó a los cientos de miles de migrantes que han perdido el Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) a que usen la autodeportación por la aplicación CBP Home para evitar la deportación forzada del país y consecuencias legales más severas.

Harry Fones, subsecretario de la Oficina de Asuntos Públicos del Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS, en inglés), dijo este jueves en conferencia de prensa virtual que existe “una gran herramienta”, CBP Home, que ya ha sido utilizada por miles de personas, y puede ser muy útil para facilitar la vida de aquellos que quedaron en el limbo, sin permisos de trabajo y expuestos a la deportación.

En estos casos se trata de más de 800.000 migrantes de Venezuela y Haití, que perdieron protección en los últimos meses, al igual que cerca de 76.000 hondureños y nicaragüenses.
“La autodeportación puede ser una gran alternativa”, dijo el funcionario, quien adelantó que se piensa expandir los beneficios para acelerar el proceso.

Fones recordó que la aplicación permite a los migrantes notificar su salida voluntaria del país.

Con ese mismo instrumento, dijo, los “tepesianos” pueden evitar la remoción forzada, contar con la coordinación de los vuelos de regreso a sus países realizada por el gobierno y recibir un estipendio de mil dólares por cada persona, una vez confirmada la partida.
Fones expresó que no disponía de información detallada de los países con mayor cantidad de indocumentados que ya usaron la aplicación, pero afirmó que los usuarios son “millares”, que salen de la lista de prioridades de deportación del DHS y no ven afectadas negativamente sus futuras oportunidades de reingreso legal al país.

Reiteró que otras ventajas financieras del uso de la aplicación, que antes se denominaba CBP One y era utilizada para otros fines, como solicitudes de asilo, es el perdón de las multas de miles de dólares que puede recibir un indocumentado, por no abandonar el país voluntariamente o no cumplir con la orden final de remoción.

Fones afirmó que las deportaciones son “una prioridad” para el presidente Donald Trump, quien ha ordenado expandir las detenciones y remociones masivas a inmigrantes en todo el país.

Harry Fones, assistant secretary of the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Office of Public Affairs, said in a virtual press conference this Thursday that there is “a great tool,” CBP Home, which has already been used by thousands of people and can be very useful in making life easier for those left in limbo, without work permits and facing deportation.

These cases involve more than 800,000 migrants from Venezuela and Haiti who lost protection in recent months, as well as nearly 76,000 Hondurans and Nicaraguans. “Self-deportation can be a great alternative,” said the official, who announced plans to expand the benefits to expedite the process.

Fones noted that the app allows migrants to notify their voluntary departure from the country.

With this same tool, he said, Tepesians can avoid forced removal, have their flights back to their countries coordinated by the government, and receive a $1,000 stipend per person once their departure is confirmed.
Fones stated that he did not have detailed information on the countries with the highest number of undocumented immigrants who have already used the app, but affirmed that there are “thousands” of users, who are removed from the DHS deportation priority list and do not see their future opportunities for legal reentry into the country negatively affected.

He reiterated that other financial benefits of using the app, which was previously called CBP One and used for other purposes, such as asylum applications, include the forgiveness of fines worth thousands of dollars that undocumented immigrants can receive for not leaving the country voluntarily or failing to comply with the final removal order.

Fones stated that deportations are “a priority” for President Donald Trump, who has ordered the expansion of mass detentions and removals of immigrants across the country.
