Yahir Mejía, sospechoso del tiroteo en Wolfchase, compareció ante el tribunal

(LPL/WREG) – Yahir Mejía, el hombre acusado de matar a tiros a otro hombre dentro del centro comercial Wolfchase Galleria, compareció ante un juez el miércoles por la mañana.

El joven de 22 años, quien alegó haber disparado en defensa propia, supo que ahora enfrentará un cargo de asesinato que podría llevarlo a prisión por décadas si es declarado culpable.

Su abogado defensor, Brandon Hall, quien lo representó en anteriores incidentes con la ley, indicó que se hará cargo de este último caso en el que su cliente fue acusado formalmente del asesinato de Erik Sandoval.

“Obviamente, este caso tomará tiempo. Hay mucha evidencia en video que aún no he visto”, dijo Hall.

“Bueno, podría tratarse principalmente de lo que se ve en el video; se entregó a la policía. Obviamente, no es bueno que un cliente haga comentarios en video mientras se entrega, pero eso es lo que tenemos aquí”, agregó.

Mejía deberá comparecer nuevamente ante el juez Bachelor el lunes. Por el momento, permanece detenido con una fianza de 500.000 dólares.

Murder suspect in Wolfchase shooting appears in court

(LPL/WREG) – Yahir Mejia, the man charged with shooting to death another man inside the Wolfchase Galleria Mall, faced a judge Wednesday morning.

The 22-year-old who claimed he shot in self-defense learned he will now face a murder charge that could land him in prison for decades if convicted.

His defense attorney, Brandon Hall, who represented him for previous run-ins with the law, indicated he will take on this latest case in which his client was officially charged with the killing of Erik Sandoval.

“This case is obviously gonna take some time to play out. There’s a lot of video evidence that I haven’t even seen yet,” said Hall.

“Well, it could be mainly what happened in terms of the video; he surrendered himself to police. Obviously, it’s not good when you have a client making video comments on the way to turn himself in, but that’s what we have here,” he said.

Mejia has been ordered back to Judge Bachelor’s courtroom on Monday. For now, he remains in lockup with a $500,000 bond.
