(LPL/FOX13) – Two men who were killed PAST Wednesday afternoon have been identified, after a mass shooting in South Memphis, that also left three others injured, police said.
According to MPD, the two men killed were 27-year-old Marcus Epps and 30-year-old Leon Parker.
Police reported that three other people faced life-threatening injuries and two died after a shootout on Wednesday at a home just feet away from LeMoyne-Owen College.
The questions remained: who fired the first shots, and would anyone face charges?
College Park Drive, the scene of the crime, was taped off for hours. Squad cars, ambulances, fire trucks and crime scene vans came and went all afternoon. The Memphis Police Department’s top brass, including Chief C.J. Davis, made the scene.
“There was some type of disturbance inside the residence that led to an exchange of gunfire,” Lt. Louis Brownlee, an MPD spokesperson, said.
Investigators said the violence all happened inside a house just feet from a daycare and tutoring facility, just yards away from the college campus.
“Officers located five shooting victims on the scene,” Brownlee said.
One person died at the scene. Another was pronounced dead at Regional One. Three more were fighting for their lives.
Investigators said everyone involved in the shooting has been located.
“Everything right now indicates it was contained inside the residence,” Brownlee said.
There was no word from MPD on why exactly the shooting started. Neither was it clear whether any survivors would face charges.
LeMoyne-Owen College released a statement shortly after the shooting, saying that the incident happened off-campus and did not involve anyone connected with the college.
