Al menos tres muertos en un tiroteo en una mezquita de San Diego. Dos adolescentes sospechosos también fueron hallados muertos

(LPL/NBC) – Tres hombres murieron en un tiroteo en una mezquita de San Diego el lunes y los dos sospechosos fallecieron, informó el jefe de policía de San Diego, Scott Wahl.

Según Wahl, se cree que los atacantes son dos adolescentes de entre 17 y 19 años y fueron encontrados muertos en un vehículo cercano; el caso se considera un crimen de odio debido a que se desarrolló el tiroteo en un lugar de culto.
“Los sospechosos murieron por heridas de bala autoinfligidas” dijo Wahl.
Además, se informó que entre las 3 víctimas que murieron se encuentra el guardia de seguridad de la mezquita.
“Uno de los fallecidos es un guardia de seguridad que trabaja allí, y creo que desempeñó un papel fundamental para evitar que la situación fuera mucho peor”, comentó el jefe de la policía.

Un jardinero que cuidaba el jardín del Centro, recibió un disparo, pero sobrevivió, según informó la policía.

Imágenes aéreas mostraron una fuerte presencia policial en las inmediaciones de la mezquita. La mezquita se encuentra en un barrio residencial a unos 14 kilómetros al norte del centro de San Diego. Según su sitio web, es la mezquita más grande del condado de San Diego.

El director del FBI, Kash Patel, compartió que el FBI ya se encuentra investigando el tiroteo y que pronto tendrán más detalles sobre el ataque.

“El FBI ha respondido en el lugar del tiroteo en el Centro Islámico de San Diego esta tarde, todos los recursos estarán disponibles para asistir a los socios locales y actualizaremos al público en la medida de nuestras posibilidades”, escribió en X.

At Least Three Dead in Shooting at San Diego Mosque; Two Teenage Suspects Also Found Dead

(LPL/NBC) – Three men died in a shooting at a San Diego mosque on Monday, and the two suspects also perished, San Diego Police Chief Scott Wahl reported.

According to Wahl, the attackers are believed to be two teenagers aged 17 to 19 who were found dead inside a nearby vehicle; the case is being treated as a hate crime because the shooting took place at a place of worship.
“The suspects died from self-inflicted gunshot wounds,” Wahl said.
Additionally, it was reported that the mosque’s security guard was among the three victims who died.
“One of the deceased is a security guard who works there, and I believe he played a pivotal role in preventing the situation from becoming much worse,” the police chief commented.

A gardener tending to the Center’s grounds was shot but survived, according to police reports.

Aerial footage showed a heavy police presence in the vicinity of the mosque. The mosque is located in a residential neighborhood approximately 14 kilometers north of downtown San Diego. According to its website, it is the largest mosque in San Diego County.

FBI Director Kash Patel shared that the FBI is already investigating the shooting and that more details regarding the attack will be available soon.

“The FBI has responded to the scene of the shooting at the Islamic Center of San Diego this afternoon; all resources will be made available to assist local partners, and we will provide updates to the public as much as we are able,” he wrote on X.

The Islamic Center’s website states that its mission is not only to serve the Muslim population but also to “work with the broader community to help the less fortunate, educate, and improve our nation.” Five daily prayers are held there, and the mosque collaborates with other organizations and individuals of all faiths on social causes.
