(LPL) – Mauricio Calvo, director ejecutivo de Latino Memphis, confirmó que los 3 empleados de la empresa Taconganas que fueron detenidos por ICE el pasado lunes en una redada, se encuentran en un centro de detención en Luisiana.

Calvo indicó que aunque no están representando legalmente a ninguno de los 3 hispanos en este momento, a los tres se le extendió una oferta “pro bono” para llevar su caso pero no han recibido respuesta.

“Queremos ayudar a estas 3 personas, pero ellos al final son los que escogen. Hemos tenido poco contacto con ellos, pero la oferta sigue en pie. Nuestra misión es ayudar a nuestra comunidad hispana,” indicó Calvo.

Según un comunicado de ICE el día de ayer, los 3 trabajadores mexicanos se encontraban en el país ilegalmente y dos de ellos tenían condenas penales previas por violaciones relacionadas con la inmigración. Igualmente, el comunicado informa que la redada que fue llevada a cabo en la locación de Cordova, formaba parte de una investigación sobre posible tráfico laboral por parte del dueño del local Greg Diaz.

Actualmente, los abogados de Latino Memphis llevan unos 600 casos pero todos son desde antes que el presidente Donald Trump tomara posesión.

“Aunque nuestros 3 abogados están bastante ocupados con otros casos, nuestra comunidad siempre puede llamarnos en caso de cualquier emergencia migratoria. Si nosotros no podemos ayudarlos, tenemos una red de aliados que pueden guiarlos en sus procesos”, expresó.

Calvo indicated that although they are not legally representing any of the three Hispanics at this time, the three were extended a “pro bono” offer to take their case but have not received a response.

“We want to help these three people but in the end they are the ones who choose. We have had little contact with them but the offer is still standing. Our mission is to help our Hispanic community,” Calvo said.

According to a statement from ICE yesterday, the three Mexican workers were in the country illegally and two of them had previous criminal convictions for immigration-related violations. Likewise, the statement reports that the raid that was carried out at the Cordova location was part of an investigation into possible labor trafficking by the owner of the store, Greg Diaz.

Currently, Latino Memphis attorneys are handling about 600 cases, but all of them are from before President Donald Trump took office.

“Although our three attorneys are quite busy with other cases, our community can always call us in case of any immigration emergency. If we cannot help them, we have a network of allies who can guide them through their processes,” she said.
