(LPL/FOX13) – Dos niños de 11 y 12 años fueron atropellados por una camioneta mientras cruzaban una señal de No Cruzar en Frayser el jueves por la tarde, informó la policía.

El conductor de la camioneta no recibió una multa.

Según el Departamento de Policía de Memphis (MPD), los agentes acudieron a un accidente en Frayser Boulevard y Overton Crossing Street. Al llegar, encontraron a dos niños atropellados por una camioneta en la intersección; uno resultó con heridas graves, mientras que se esperaba que el otro se recuperara.

El conductor de la camioneta declaró a los investigadores que estaba pasando Overton Crossing Street con el semáforo en verde cuando unos niños “se acercaron a un vehículo que estaba en el carril de giro”, según un informe policial.
Para cuando los vio, “ya era demasiado tarde”, continúa el informe.

El MPD indicó que el accidente ocurrió mientras los niños salían de una escuela cercana. Los investigadores obtuvieron un video del teléfono celular de un testigo que muestra el momento en que los niños cruzaron la calle durante la señal de No Cruzar, según la policía.

(LPL/CNN) – Two children, 11 and 12, were struck by an SUV while they were walking through a Do Not Cross sign in Frayser on Thursday afternoon, police said.

The SUV driver was not cited.

According to the Memphis Police Department (MPD), officers responded to a crash at Frayser Boulevard and Overton Crossing Street. They arrived to find two children had been struck by an SUV at the intersection; one was left with critical injuries, while the other child was expected to be OK, police said.

The driver of the SUV told investigators that he was driving past Overton Crossing Street on a green light when children “came from around a vehicle that was sitting in the turn lane,” police said in a report.
By the time he saw them, “it was too late,” the report continued.

MPD said the crash happened while children were being released from a nearby school. Investigators obtained cell phone video from a witness showing the moment the children walked through during the Do Not Cross sign, police said.

MPD initially said the SUV driver took off after the crash but the department clarified Friday that he never left the scene.
