Store clerk shot and killed after trying to stop man from stealing at South Memphis market, MPD says
(LPL/FOX13) – Un tiroteo se desató en un mercado del sur de Memphis el domingo por la noche, matando a un empleado, según informó la policía.
La Policía de Memphis (MPD) informó que el incidente ocurrió en Sam’s Food Market, ubicado en Mississippi Boulevard. La policía indicó que los agentes acudieron al mercado poco después de las 9 p. m. tras un tiroteo y encontraron a un hombre herido de bala.
El MPD indicó que todo comenzó con una discusión dentro de la tienda, y agregó que la confrontación se extendió al exterior, donde el empleado recibió un disparo. Al llegar, los agentes encontraron que la víctima había recibido varios disparos. Fue trasladado a un hospital en estado crítico y posteriormente falleció, informó la policía.
El MPD indicó que los investigadores obtuvieron imágenes de vigilancia que muestran al presunto tirador intentando irse sin pagar los artículos que había robado de la tienda. El empleado intentó detener al ladrón, pero “mientras forcejeaba con los artículos, el sospechoso disparó varias veces, alcanzando a la víctima y matándolo”, informó la policía.
El Departamento de Policía de Memphis (MPD) publicó imágenes del sospechoso sosteniendo artículos de la tienda, incluyendo una botella de refresco.
La policía indicó que el sospechoso vestía una sudadera negra con capucha y pantalones vaqueros en el momento del tiroteo.

Memphis Police (MPD) said it happened at Sam’s Food Market on Mississippi Boulevard. Police said officers were called to the market just after 9 p.m. for a shooting and found a man had been shot.
MPD said it all started with an argument inside the store, adding that the confrontation spilled outside, where the clerk was shot. Officers arrived to find the victim had been shot several times. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition and later died, police said.
MPD said that investigators obtained surveillance footage showing the suspected shooter trying to leaving without paying from items he had taken from the store. The clerk tried to stop the shoplifter but “while struggling over the items, the suspect fired several shots, striking the victim and killing him,” police said.
MPD released images of the suspect holding store items, including a bottle of soda.
Police said the suspect was wearing a black hoodie and jeans at the time of the shooting.
