Gobierno de Trump anuncia el fin del Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS) para venezolanos a partir del 10 de septiembre de 2025

(LPL) – La Secretario de Seguridad Nacional, Kristi Noem, anunció hoy la terminación de la designación de Estatus de Protección Temporal (TPS, por sus siglas en inglés) para Venezuela, establecida en 2021, la cual expirará el 10 de septiembre de 2025. La decisión entrará en vigor 60 días después de la publicación en el Federal Register.

El TPS es un programa que permite a ciudadanos de ciertos países permanecer temporalmente en Estados Unidos debido a condiciones extraordinarias en su país de origen, como conflictos armados, desastres naturales o crisis humanitarias. Antes de que un TPS caduque, la Secretaría de Seguridad Nacional, en consulta con agencias gubernamentales pertinentes, evalúa si las condiciones que justificaron la designación continúan vigentes y determina si se debe extender el programa.

Según el portavoz del Servicio de Ciudadanía e Inmigración de Estados Unidos (USCIS), Matthew Tragesser, “dada la influencia de Venezuela en la migración irregular y el efecto atracción generado por el TPS, mantener o ampliar este beneficio para ciudadanos venezolanos socava los esfuerzos del gobierno estadounidense para controlar la frontera sur y gestionar la migración de manera efectiva”. Asimismo, la evaluación incluyó factores de seguridad pública, política migratoria, economía y relaciones exteriores.

Tras consultar con agencias del gobierno, la secretaria Noem concluyó que las condiciones en Venezuela ya no cumplen los requisitos legales para el TPS, basándose en revisiones de USCIS y en coordinación con el Departamento de Estado. La decisión se justifica porque mantener el TPS para venezolanos se considera contrario al interés nacional de Estados Unidos.

Los venezolanos que decidan salir del país pueden utilizar la aplicación CBP Home de la Oficina de Aduanas y Protección Fronteriza para registrar su salida de manera segura. El programa de salida voluntaria ofrece un boleto de avión gratuito, un bono de $1,000 y posibles oportunidades futuras de inmigración legal.

U.S. Announces End of Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for Venezuelans Starting September 10, 2025

(LPL) – Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem announced today the termination of the Temporary Protected Status (TPS) designation for Venezuela, established in 2021, which will expire on September 10, 2025. The termination will take effect 60 days after publication in the Federal Register.

TPS is a program that allows citizens of certain countries to remain temporarily in the United States due to extraordinary conditions in their home country, such as armed conflicts, natural disasters, or humanitarian crises. Before a TPS designation expires, the Secretary of Homeland Security, in consultation with relevant U.S. government agencies, reviews whether the conditions that justified the designation continue to exist and determines whether an extension is warranted.

According to U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) spokesperson Matthew Tragesser, “Given Venezuela’s influence on irregular migration and the magnet effect created by TPS, maintaining or expanding this benefit for Venezuelan nationals undermines the U.S. government’s efforts to secure the southern border and manage migration effectively.” The evaluation also considered public safety, immigration policy, economic factors, and foreign relations.

After consulting with government agencies, Secretary Noem determined that conditions in Venezuela no longer meet the statutory requirements for TPS, based on USCIS reviews and in coordination with the Department of State. The decision is justified because maintaining TPS for Venezuelans is deemed contrary to the national interest of the United States.
