(LPL) – Un hombre ha sido arrestado y acusado de asesinato en segundo grado luego de admitir que disparó y mató a una persona que, según él, lo había estado siguiendo durante meses.

Los hechos comenzaron el sábado por la noche, alrededor de las 11:45 p.m., cuando agentes del Departamento de Policía de Memphis (MPD) respondieron a un reporte de tiroteo en la zona de Knight Arnold y Perkins. Testigos dijeron que un hombre con camiseta blanca y pantalones deportivos grises caminaba por Knight Arnold disparando a los autos que pasaban. Uno de los vehículos impactados fue un BMW rojo, cuyo conductor resultó herido.

La policía localizó a un hombre con esa descripción en la zona, pero al no poder confirmar su identidad con certeza, lo dejaron en libertad.

Horas después, ya en la madrugada del domingo a las 12:26 a.m., los agentes acudieron a un incidente doméstico en la cuadra 3200 de Cookie Cove. Allí intervinieron en una discusión verbal entre una pareja y, para calmar la situación, llevaron a Gabriel Pickett, de 31 años, a su casa en la cuadra 3100 de Craig Street.

Al llegar, Pickett sorprendió a los oficiales al decirles que no quería entrar porque había un cadáver dentro de la vivienda. Los agentes entraron y encontraron a un hombre muerto con múltiples heridas de bala. Los paramédicos confirmaron el fallecimiento en el lugar.

Posteriormente, la policía obtuvo un video de un residente frente a la casa de Pickett. En la grabación se observa a Pickett discutiendo con la víctima y luego disparándole varias veces justo frente a la casa. El video también muestra a Pickett corriendo hacia la calle y disparando contra un Dodge Challenger que pasaba, y luego hacia más vehículos en Knight Arnold, incluido el BMW rojo.

Durante el interrogatorio, Pickett declaró que desde hacía meses creía que lo estaban siguiendo y que actuó en defensa propia. Dijo que pensaba que la víctima formaba parte de ese supuesto grupo de personas. Según su versión, le pidió al hombre que regresara a su habitación de la casa compartida, pero cuando este salió repentinamente, Pickett se asustó y disparó.

También confesó haber disparado contra otros vehículos que pensó lo estaban vigilando.

Man shot another man to death because he thought he had been followed for months

(LPL) – A man has been arrested and charged with second-degree murder after admitting to shooting and killing a person he claimed had been following him for months.

The incident began Saturday night at around 11:45 p.m. when Memphis Police Department (MPD) officers responded to a report of a shooting in the area of ​​Knight Arnold and Perkins. Witnesses said a man wearing a white T-shirt and gray sweatpants was walking along Knight Arnold, shooting at passing cars. One of the vehicles hit was a red BMW, whose driver was injured.

Police located a man matching that description in the area, but were unable to confirm his identity and released him.

Hours later, early Sunday morning at 12:26 a.m., officers responded to a domestic incident in the 3200 block of Cookie Cove. There, they intervened in a verbal argument between a couple and, to defuse the situation, took 31-year-old Gabriel Pickett to his home in the 3100 block of Craig Street.

Upon arrival, Pickett surprised officers by telling them he didn’t want to go in because there was a body inside the home. Officers entered and found a man dead with multiple gunshot wounds. Paramedics confirmed his death at the scene.

Police later obtained video footage from a resident in front of Pickett’s home. The footage shows Pickett arguing with the victim and then shooting him several times right in front of the home. The video also shows Pickett running into the street and shooting at a passing Dodge Challenger, and then at several vehicles on Knight Arnold Street, including the red BMW.

During questioning, Pickett stated that for months he believed he was being followed and that he acted in self-defense. He stated that he thought the victim was part of that alleged group of people. According to his account, he asked the man to return to his room in the shared house, but when he suddenly came out, Pickett became frightened and fired.

He also confessed to shooting at other vehicles he thought were watching him.

Gabriel Pickett now faces charges of second-degree murder and reckless endangerment.
