Memphis Shelby County Schools confirms that victims of yesterday’s shooting were students at Booker T. Washington High School.

(LPL/EN) – Un comunicado de las Escuelas del Condado de Memphis-Shelby (MSCS por sus siglas en inglés) confirmó que las dos víctimas del tiroteo ocurrido ayer alrededor de las 3 p. m. de ayer, a pocos metros de la Preparatoria Booker T. Washington, eran estudiantes de ese plantel.

“MSCS informa que los dos estudiantes asistían a la Preparatoria Booker T. Washington”, declaró la MSCS en un comunicado. “Extendemos nuestras más sinceras condolencias a sus familias, seres queridos y a toda la comunidad de BTW. Contamos con consejeros de duelo y servicios adicionales de apoyo emocional, que seguirán disponibles para ayudar a nuestros estudiantes y personal en estos momentos. MSCS está trabajando en estrecha colaboración con las fuerzas del orden mientras continúan investigando el incidente, y se han implementado medidas de seguridad adicionales en el campus. La violencia no tiene cabida en nuestras comunidades ni en nuestros corazones. Debemos unirnos para proteger a nuestros hijos y crear un futuro donde se sientan seguros, valorados y apoyados. Gracias por su compasión y apoyo a la familia Booker T. Washington”.

Las autoridades cerraron brevemente la escuela antes de permitir que los estudiantes salieran alrededor de las 4 p. m. La investigación parecía centrarse en los apartamentos Cleaborn Pointe en Heritage Landing.

No se han realizado arrestos. La policía de Memphis pidió a cualquier persona que tenga información sobre los responsables que llame a CrimeStoppers al 901-528-2274.

“MSCS reports that the two students attended Booker T. Washington High School,” MSCS said in a statement. “We extend our deepest condolences to their families, loved ones, and the entire BTW community. Grief counselors and additional emotional support services are available to assist our students and staff during this time. MSCS is working closely with law enforcement as they continue to investigate the incident, and additional security measures have been implemented on campus. Violence has no place in our communities or in our hearts. We must come together to protect our children and create a future where they feel safe, valued, and supported. Thank you for your compassion and support of the Booker T. Washington family.”

Authorities briefly locked down the school before allowing students to leave around 4 p.m. The investigation appeared to be focused on the Cleaborn Pointe Apartments at Heritage Landing.

No arrests have been made. Memphis police asked anyone with information about the perpetrators to call CrimeStoppers at 901-528-2274.
