Muere una estudiante tras dispararse frente a sus compañeros en la cafetería de su escuela secundaria

(LPL/WMC) – Una estudiante falleció tras dispararse a sí misma en la cafetería de una escuela secundaria en Ohio, informaron las autoridades.

El suceso tuvo lugar el lunes por la tarde en la Valley Forge High School, en Parma Heights.

Scott Traxler, oficial de información pública de la policía de Parma, declaró que el incidente involucró un único disparo y a una sola estudiante. No existía ninguna amenaza activa para el resto de los alumnos ni para el personal.
La policía llegó a la escuela alrededor de las 2:10 p. m. Los equipos de emergencia trasladaron a la estudiante de 18 años a un hospital, donde falleció.

Un estudiante, que prefirió mantener el anonimato, relató que el tiroteo ocurrió justo a la hora de la salida.

«Acababa de salir de mi última clase. Doblé la esquina y, de repente, vi venir corriendo al oficial escolar, gritando para que todos se apartaran del camino. Vi a los estudiantes muy alterados —yo incluido—, apresurándonos para salir de allí, porque fue algo terrible de presenciar», comentó.

El estudiante añadió: «Es una tragedia. Es algo terrible. Es realmente muy triste de ver; detesto el impacto que esto ha tenido en cualquiera que lo haya presenciado, y también siento mucha pena por la chica».
Como parte de los protocolos de seguridad, el distrito escolar informó que los estudiantes fueron evacuados a un punto de reunión designado.

La escuela permanecerá cerrada el martes y el miércoles, según comunicó el distrito.

(LPL/WMC) – A student died after she shot herself in the cafeteria of an Ohio high school, officials said.

The death happened Monday afternoon at Valley Forge High School in Parma Heights.

Parma police public information officer Scott Traxler said the shooting involved a single gunshot and one student. There was no active threat to other students or staff.
Police arrived at the school around 2:10 p.m. First responders took the 18-year-old student to a hospital, where she died.

A student, who did not want to be identified, said the shooting happened right around dismissal time.

“I was just leaving my last period class. I rounded the corner, then the resource officer was coming over screaming to get everyone out of the way. I saw students upset, me included, just hustling to get out of there, because it was terrible to see,” he said.

The student added, “It’s a tragedy. It’s terrible. It’s really, really sad to see, and I hate the impact that it had on anyone who saw it, and I feel sorry for the girl, too.”
As part of safety protocols, the district said students were evacuated to a designated reunification site.

The school will be closed Tuesday and Wednesday, according to the district.
