Policía de Memphis resulta herido tras ser atropellado durante parada de tráfico en East Memphis

(LPL) – Un oficial del Departamento de Policía de Memphis resultó herido la noche del jueves luego de ser atropellado por un vehículo durante una parada de tráfico en East Memphis, según informaron las autoridades.

De acuerdo con la policía, el incidente ocurrió alrededor de las 8:00 p.m. en la intersección de Getwell Road y Park Avenue. El oficial había detenido a un conductor, pero durante la intervención el sospechoso huyó del lugar y en su escape atropelló al agente.

Tras el impacto, otros oficiales iniciaron una persecución del vehículo. La persecución terminó aproximadamente a una milla del lugar inicial, cerca de la zona de Goodman Street, donde el conductor se estrelló y fue finalmente detenido por las autoridades.

El sospechoso fue identificado como Marcus Ross, de 40 años. Según la policía, enfrenta varios cargos, entre ellos agresión agravada contra un agente del orden público, ignorar una luz roja, conducir con la licencia suspendida, evadir el arresto tanto en vehículo como a pie, violación de la ley financiera y conducción imprudente.

Las autoridades indicaron que el oficial herido se espera que se recupere.

Este incidente ocurre apenas una semana después de que otro agente de la policía de Memphis resultara herido durante una parada de tráfico. El 26 de febrero, el oficial Oscar Torres-Molina fue baleado durante un operativo similar en el área de Parkway Village. Posteriormente fue dado de alta del hospital y continúa recuperándose en su hogar, según informó la policía.

Memphis police officer injured after being struck by car during traffic stop in East Memphis

(LPL) – A Memphis Police Department officer was injured Thursday night after being struck by a vehicle during a traffic stop in East Memphis, authorities said.

According to police, the incident happened around 8 p.m. near the intersection of Getwell Road and Park Avenue. The officer had pulled over a driver, but during the stop the suspect fled the scene and struck the officer while attempting to escape.

Additional officers then began pursuing the vehicle. The chase ended about a mile from the initial stop near the Goodman Street area, where the driver crashed and was taken into custody.

The suspect was identified as 40-year-old Marcus Ross. Police said he is facing multiple charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, disregarding a red light, driving with a suspended license, evading arrest both in a vehicle and on foot, violation of financial responsibility law, and reckless driving.

Authorities said the injured officer is expected to recover.

The incident comes just a week after another Memphis police officer was injured during a traffic stop. On Feb. 26, Officer Oscar Torres-Molina was shot during a traffic stop in the Parkway Village area. He has since been released from the hospital and is recovering at home, according to police.
