Salud, cultura y solidaridad se unen en la 2.ª Feria de Salud y Bienestar “Amigo Saludable”

(LPL) – La comunidad de Memphis tendrá una nueva oportunidad para cuidar su salud, disfrutar de actividades culturales y apoyar una causa humanitaria durante la 2.ª Feria de Salud y Bienestar “Amigo Saludable”, que se llevará a cabo el sábado 11 de julio, de 10:00 a.m. a 2:00 p.m., en El Mercadito de Memphis, ubicado en 3766 Ridgeway Road.

El evento, organizado por Amigo Community Center en colaboración con el Departamento de Salud del Condado de Shelby, reunirá en un solo lugar servicios gratuitos de salud, actividades para toda la familia, exhibiciones culturales y presentaciones artísticas, con el objetivo de promover el bienestar integral de la comunidad hispana.

Durante la jornada, los asistentes podrán acceder sin costo a vacunas para el regreso a clases, registros de vacunación, pruebas confidenciales de VIH, inscripción a programas de prevención como PrEP y PEP, apoyo del programa WIC para mujeres, bebés y niños, recursos de salud ambiental, educación para prevenir el consumo de tabaco y kits de prevención de sobredosis que incluyen naloxona y tiras reactivas para detectar fentanilo. También estará disponible el programa CHANT, que ayuda a las personas a conectarse con servicios de salud y recursos comunitarios.

Además de los servicios médicos, la feria ofrecerá una programación llena de actividades recreativas y culturales. A partir de las 11:30 a.m., el reconocido artista Rafael Figueroa realizará una demostración de cartonería mexicana, mostrando el proceso artesanal del papel maché y compartiendo la historia de una de las expresiones más representativas del patrimonio cultural de México.

A esa misma hora, los niños podrán participar en una clínica gratuita de fútbol dirigida por Keith Potts y el equipo de Play Where You Stay, una iniciativa que promueve la actividad física, el trabajo en equipo y la inclusión a través del deporte. También habrá exhibiciones de Jumping Fitness y una energética clase de ElasticDance, invitando a los asistentes a mantenerse activos mientras disfrutan del evento.

La cultura también tendrá un papel protagónico con la presentación del grupo Danzas Xochiquetzal, programada para la 1:00 p.m.. Sus integrantes ofrecerán un espectáculo inspirado en las tradiciones ancestrales de los pueblos indígenas, destacando el valor de las raíces, la identidad y el legado cultural a través de la música y la danza.

Como novedad este año, la feria también tendrá un importante componente solidario. Durante el evento se realizará una Subasta Silenciosa para recaudar fondos a beneficio de la iniciativa Venezuela Nos Necesita, que brinda apoyo a personas afectadas por la crisis humanitaria en ese país.

Health, culture, and solidarity come together at the 2nd Health and Wellness Fair – Amigo Saludable

(LPL) – The Memphis community will have a new opportunity to look after their health, enjoy cultural activities, and support a humanitarian cause during the 2nd Health and Wellness Fair – Amigo Saludable. The event will take place on Saturday, July 11, from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. at El Mercadito de Memphis, located at 3766 Ridgeway Road.

Organized by the Amigo Community Center in collaboration with the Shelby County Health Department, the event will bring together free health services, family-friendly activities, cultural exhibits, and artistic performances in one location, all aimed at promoting the holistic well-being of the Hispanic community.

During the event, attendees will have free access to back-to-school vaccinations, immunization records, confidential HIV testing, enrollment in prevention programs like PrEP and PEP, WIC program support for women, infants, and children, environmental health resources, tobacco prevention education, and overdose prevention kits containing naloxone and fentanyl test strips. The CHANT program, which helps people connect with health services and community resources, will also be available.

In addition to medical services, the fair will offer a schedule packed with recreational and cultural activities. Starting at 11:30 a.m., renowned artist Rafael Figueroa will give a demonstration of *cartonería* (Mexican paper craft), showcasing the artisanal papier-mâché process and sharing the history of one of Mexico’s most iconic cultural expressions.

At the same time, children can participate in a free soccer clinic led by Keith Potts and the Play Where You Stay team—an initiative that promotes physical activity, teamwork, and inclusion through sports. There will also be Jumping Fitness demonstrations and an energetic ElasticDance class, encouraging attendees to stay active while enjoying the event. Culture will also play a leading role with a performance by the Danzas Xochiquetzal group, scheduled for 1:00 p.m. The group will present a show inspired by the ancestral traditions of indigenous peoples, highlighting the value of roots, identity, and cultural heritage through music and dance.

A new feature this year is the fair’s significant charitable component.
