(LPL) – El alcalde de Memphis, Paul Young, se pronunció tras el tiroteo en un festival de comida y música que se llevó a cabo en el Parque Tom Lee el pasado fin de semana y en el que falleció un joven adolescente.

Young declaró que el tiroteo fue “desgarrador, indignante y absolutamente inaceptable”.

“El tiroteo del domingo en el Festival de Comida y Cultura Foodees es desgarrador, indignante y absolutamente inaceptable. Y marca el final de una semana llena de demasiados actos de anarquía y violencia en nuestra comunidad, desde el tiroteo masivo en una reunión de los Aliados de Memphis hasta un niño que recibió un disparo mientras jugaba en su propio jardín”, indicó.

“¡Ya basta!”, exclamó.

“Nuestra ribera está destinada a ser un lugar de alegría, conexión y comunidad. La violencia imprudente perpetrada durante un evento comunitario destrozó ese propósito. Mis oraciones están con la víctima, los testigos y las familias afectadas por este acto sin sentido. Seamos claros: perseguiremos el enjuiciamiento de este delito y de todos los demás. Delitos violentos, con todo el rigor de la ley”, expresó el alcalde.

“Los espacios públicos, especialmente nuestros parques, deben ser siempre acogedores, atractivos y seguros. Dar pasos para dejar atrás una vida de violencia debe ser recibido con paz y celebración. Y jugar en el jardín nunca debe ser una actividad peligrosa. No nos rendiremos ante el caos. No nos rendiremos. Seguiremos trabajando arduamente para que Memphis sea más fuerte y segura. Y eso significa que, si siembras el caos en Memphis, te encontraremos y presionaremos para un procesamiento rápido. Ganaremos la guerra contra la violencia en Memphis. Es una promesa”, finalizó el mandatario.

(LPL) – Memphis Mayor Paul Young spoke out following the shooting at a food and music festival in Tom Lee Park last weekend, which left a teenager dead.

Young declared the shooting “heartbreaking, outrageous, and absolutely unacceptable.”

“Sunday’s shooting at the Foodees Food and Culture Festival is heartbreaking, outrageous, and absolutely unacceptable. And it marks the end of a week filled with far too many acts of lawlessness and violence in our community, from the mass shooting at a Memphis Allies gathering to a child who was shot while playing in his own yard,” he said.

“Enough is enough!” he exclaimed.

“Our waterfront is meant to be a place of joy, connection, and community. The reckless violence perpetrated during a community event shattered that purpose. My prayers are with the victim, witnesses, and families affected by this senseless act. Let us be clear: we will pursue prosecution of this crime and all other violent crimes to the fullest extent of the law,” the mayor said.

“Public spaces, especially our parks, should always be welcoming, inviting, and safe. Taking steps to leave a life of violence behind should be met with peace and celebration. And playing in the yard should never be a dangerous activity. We will not give in to chaos. We will not give up. We will continue to work hard to make Memphis stronger and safer. And that means if you sow chaos in Memphis, we will find you and push for swift prosecution. We will win the war on violence in Memphis. That is a promise,” the mayor concluded.
