Murió la mujer que había sido atacada por varios perros en Mississippi

(LPL/WREG) – La mujer que fue brutalmente atacada por perros en Mississippi a principios de este mes falleció el viernes por la mañana mientras se encontraba hospitalizada, según informaron el departamento de policía y la oficina del forense.

El 3 de marzo, Lakesha Newsom fue atacada por unos perros mientras caminaba por la autopista 178 en Holly Springs, Mississippi. Debido a la gravedad de sus heridas, tuvieron que amputarle un brazo y una pierna mientras permanecía en el hospital.

Newsom había estado luchando por su vida en el centro médico Regional One Health, en Memphis, durante tres semanas. Su madre relató que estaban tratando de brindarle el mayor confort posible.
Sandra Harris, de 54 años y propietaria de los perros, ha sido acusada de agresión con agravantes, por manifestar una extrema indiferencia hacia la vida humana.

Según la declaración jurada penal, Harris es acusada de causar, de manera intencionada, consciente y delictiva, graves lesiones corporales a la víctima —Newsom— al permitir negligentemente que sus perros deambularan sueltos; esto provocó que los animales la atacaran ferozmente y le causaran severas lesiones, en contravención de la paz y la dignidad del estado de Mississippi.

La madre de Newsom, Rosie Young, declaró que, si bien sienten alivio por la detención, esta no podrá restituir lo que su hija ha perdido.
«Todavía estoy asimilando todo esto, pero me siento aliviada de que se esté haciendo justicia en nombre de Lakesha», expresó Young.

Woman dies after brutal dog attack in Mississippi

(LPL/WREG) – The woman who was brutally attacked by dogs in Mississippi earlier this month died while in the hospital on Friday morning, according to the police department and the coroner’s office.

On March 3, Lakesha Newsom was attacked by dogs while walking on Highway 178 in Holly Springs, Mississippi. Due to the severity of her injuries, she had to have an arm and a leg amputated while in the hospital.

Newsom had been fighting for her life at Regional One Health in Memphis for three weeks. Her mother says that they were trying to make her comfortable.

Sandra Harris, 54, the owner of the dogs, has been charged with aggravated assault, manifesting extreme indifference to Human Life.

According to the criminal affidavit, Harris is accused of purposely, knowingly, and feloniously causing serious bodily injury to the victim, Newsom, by negligently allowing her dogs to run at large, resulting in the dogs mauling and causing severe bodily injuries to Newsom, against the peace and dignity of the state of Mississippi.

Newsom’s mother, Rosie Young, said while they are relieved by the arrest, it won’t restore what her daughter has lost.

“I’m still processing this, but I feel relieved we are getting Justice on Lakesha’s behalf,” said Young.
