(LPL/EN) – Cerca de 40 senadores estadounidenses enviaron una misiva formal al Departamento de Seguridad Nacional (DHS) para exigir reformas estructurales inmediatas en el Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas (ICE).

La iniciativa legislativa responde a una creciente ola de indignación tras recientes operativos que resultaron en la muerte de ciudadanos latinoamericanos a manos de agentes federales.

La carta, liderada por el senador independiente Angus King (Maine) y respaldada por la bancada demócrata, reclama mayor transparencia operativa y mecanismos estrictos de supervisión.

Según publicó EFE, entre las exigencias principales destacan el uso obligatorio de cámaras corporales durante las intervenciones, la identificación visible e ineludible de los oficiales en el terreno y la revisión exhaustiva de los protocolos sobre el uso de la fuerza letal.

La presión legislativa sobre Seguridad Nacional se intensificó tras registrarse tres fallecimientos en días recientes durante controles de tráfico ejecutados por ICE: el del mexicano Lorenzo Salgado Araujo en Texas; del colombiano Johan Durán en Maine y otro migrante en Florida.

Estos sucesos reavivaron la crisis política desatada a comienzos de 2026 en Minneapolis, donde los ciudadanos estadounidenses Renee Nicole Good (37) y Alex Pretti (37) murieron en enero en incidentes separados con agentes migratorios, desencadenando protestas masivas a nivel nacional.

This legislative move follows a growing wave of outrage over recent operations that resulted in the deaths of Latin American nationals at the hands of federal agents.

The letter, led by Independent Senator Angus King (Maine) and backed by the Democratic caucus, calls for greater operational transparency and strict oversight mechanisms.

According to EFE, key demands include the mandatory use of body cameras during operations, clear and mandatory officer identification in the field, and a comprehensive review of protocols regarding the use of lethal force.

Legislative pressure on the Department of Homeland Security intensified following three recent deaths during ICE-conducted traffic stops: those of Mexican national Lorenzo Salgado Araujo in Texas, Colombian national Johan Durán in Maine, and another migrant in Florida.

These incidents reignited the political crisis that began in early 2026 in Minneapolis, where U.S. citizens Renee Nicole Good (37) and Alex Pretti (37) died in separate incidents involving immigration agents in January, sparking massive nationwide protests.
