(LPL/EN) – Dos personas fallecieron luego de que el hijo de una funcionaria policial abriera fuego en la Universidad Estatal de Florida, en la ciudad de Tallahasse, informaron las autoridades.
Cinco personas resultaron heridas cuando el atacante, identificado como Phoenix Ikner, irrumpió en la universidad y abrió fuego contra los estudiantes, antes ser disparado por las fuerzas de seguridad locales.
Los heridos fueron trasladados al hospital, al igual que Ikner, quien es el hijo de una adjunta del departamento del sheriff del condado de Leon, en donde se encuentra el centro educativo.
Una sexta persona resultó herida cuando trataba de huir del tiroteo, explicó en un comunicado Lawrence Revell, del Departamento de Policía de Tallahasse.
kner, de 20 años, fue hospitalizado con «heridas graves, pero que no ponen en peligro su vida», añadió Revell.
El sheriff de Leon, Walt McNei, contó a los periodistas que Ikner era estudiante de la universidad y que su madre lleva trabajando 18 años en el departamento y «ha prestado un servicio tremendo a la comunidad».
«Desafortunadamente, su hijo tuvo acceso a una de sus armas, y fue una de esas armas la que encontramos en la escena», agregó.
El presunto atacante también era un miembro de larga data del departamento del condado de Leon, ciudadano del Concejo Asesor de la Juventud, y participó en una serie de programas de la oficina del sheriff, detalló McNeil.
Las autoridades de Tallahassee informaron que los dos fallecidos, «dos hombres adultos», no eran alumnos del centro de estudios.

(LPL/EN) – Two people died after the son of a police officer opened fire at Florida State University in Tallahasse, authorities reported.
Five people were injured when the gunman, identified as Phoenix Ikner, stormed the university and opened fire on students, before being shot by local law enforcement.
The injured were taken to the hospital, as was Ikner, the son of a deputy with the Leon County Sheriff’s Department, where the school is located.
A sixth person was injured while trying to flee the shooting, Lawrence Revell of the Tallahasse Police Department said in a statement.
Ikner, 20, was hospitalized with “serious but non-life-threatening injuries,” Revell added.
Leon Sheriff Walt McNeil told reporters that Ikner was a student at the university and that his mother had been with the department for 18 years and “has provided tremendous service to the community.”
“Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons, and it was one of those weapons we found at the scene,” he added.
The alleged shooter was also a longtime member of the Leon County Sheriff’s Office, a member of the Youth Advisory Council, and participated in a number of sheriff’s office programs, McNeil said.
Tallahassee authorities reported that the two deceased, “both adult males,” were not students at the school.
