Irán promete una “respuesta decisiva” al ataque de Estados Unidos

(LPL/BBC) – Tras el ataque de Estados Unidos contra instalaciones nucleares de Irán el domingo, el mundo se pregunta cuál será la respuesta de Teherán.

El líder supremo iraní, el ayatolá Alí Jamenei, no ha hecho una declaración oficial, pero varios altos mandos militares han amenazado con responder a los ataques estadounidenses.

Este lunes, medios iraníes publicaron un video del comandante en jefe de la Nación Islámica, Amir Hatami, hablando con sus oficiales en una sala de operaciones.

En el video, Hatami afirma que cada vez que EE.UU. cometió “crímenes” contra Irán en el pasado, “ha recibido una respuesta decisiva, y esta vez será igual”.

Mientras tanto, el jefe del Estado Mayor del ejército iraní, Abdolrahim Mousavi, emitió un comunicado en el que afirma que Washington abrió la posibilidad de que sus fuerzas tomen “cualquier acción” contra las tropas estadounidenses. Y añade que Irán “nunca cederá”.

Y en otra advertencia, el portavoz de los Cuerpos de la Guardia Revolucionaria Islámica (CGRI), Ebrahim Zolfaghari, dijo el lunes que Estados Unidos “entró directamente” en la guerra y ha violado el “suelo sagrado” de Irán.

Agregó que la primera potencia mundial enfrentará “graves, lamentables e impredecibles consecuencias” mediante “operaciones poderosas y selectivas”.

Y en declaraciones en inglés dirigiéndose directamente a Donald Trump, Zolfaghari manifestó: “¡Señor Trump, el apostador! Puede que usted empiece esta guerra, ¡pero nosotros seremos quienes la terminaremos!”.

Irán “va a responder de alguna manera. Es difícil decir cuál será”, declaró a la BBC el teniente general Mark C. Schwartz, excoordinador de seguridad de Estados Unidos para Israel y la Autoridad Palestina.

La principal preocupación del teniente general Schwartz son las fuerzas estadounidenses estacionadas en bases en Irak, Jordania y Siria, más que las que se encuentran en Bahréin y Kuwait.

En total, EE.UU. tiene instalaciones militares en al menos 19 emplazamientos en Medio Oriente, ocho de ellos considerados permanentes por muchos analistas regionales: Arabia Saudita, Bahréin, Egipto, Emiratos Árabes Unidos, Irak, Israel, Jordania, Kuwait, Qatar y Siria.

Irán cuenta con varios aliados en la región que podrían actuar en su nombre. Kata’ib Hezbolá, la milicia chiita iraquí respaldada por Irán, sería la más viable para hacerlo, seguida por los hutíes en Yemen, afirmó el teneiente general.

Estados Unidos designó a Kata’ib Hezbolá, también conocida como las Brigadas de Hezbolá, como organización terrorista extranjera en 2009.

Iran Vows a “Decisive Response” to the US Attack

(LPL/BBC) – Following the US attack on Iran’s nuclear facilities on Sunday, the world is wondering what Tehran’s response will be.

Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, has not issued an official statement, but several senior military officials have threatened to respond to the US attacks.

On Monday, Iranian media released a video of the Islamic Nation’s Commander-in-Chief, Amir Hatami, speaking with his officers in an operations room.

In the video, Hatami claims that every time the US committed “crimes” against Iran in the past, “it has received a decisive response, and this time it will be the same.”

Meanwhile, Iranian Army Chief of Staff Abdolrahim Mousavi issued a statement saying that Washington has opened the door for its forces to take “any action” against US troops. He added that Iran “will never back down.”

And in another warning, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) spokesman Ebrahim Zolfaghari said Monday that the United States “directly entered” the war and has violated Iran’s “sacred soil.”

He added that the world’s leading power will face “grave, regrettable, and unpredictable consequences” through “powerful and targeted operations.”

And in remarks in English directly addressing Donald Trump, Zolfaghari declared: “Mr. Trump, the gambler! You may start this war, but we will be the ones to finish it!”

Iran “is going to respond in some way. It’s hard to say what it will be,” Lieutenant General Mark C. Schwartz, former US security coordinator for Israel and the Palestinian Authority, told the BBC.

Lieutenant General Schwartz’s main concern is the US forces stationed at bases in Iraq, Jordan, and Syria, rather than those in Bahrain and Kuwait.

In total, the US has military installations in at least 19 locations in the Middle East, eight of which are considered permanent by many regional analysts: Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Israel, Jordan, Kuwait, Qatar, and Syria.

Iran has several allies in the region that could act on its behalf. Kata’ib Hezbollah, the Iran-backed Iraqi Shiite militia, would be the most viable to do so, followed by the Houthis in Yemen, the lieutenant general said.

The United States designated Kata’ib Hezbollah, also known as the Hezbollah Brigades, as a foreign terrorist organization in 2009.
