Violento asalto en Beale Street deja a cuatro mujeres heridas y sin su vehículo

(LPL) – Cuatro mujeres fueron agredidas y asaltadas durante la madrugada del domingo en Beale Street por un grupo de hombres que además les robaron un Dodge Charger, según informó el Departamento de Policía de Memphis (MPD).

Los oficiales respondieron inicialmente a un reporte de una pelea entre unas 20 a 30 personas en un parque alrededor de las 4 a.m., pero al llegar al lugar la multitud se dispersó y no se encontraron víctimas. Poco después, los agentes fueron llamados al estacionamiento ubicado en 149 Peabody Place, donde cuatro mujeres denunciaron haber sido atacadas.

De acuerdo con el informe policial, las víctimas contaron que un grupo de hombres se les acercó intentando entablar conversación. Al rechazar sus insinuaciones, los sospechosos se enfurecieron y comenzaron a golpearlas, robándoles dinero en efectivo. Uno de ellos tomó las llaves de un Dodge Charger del bolsillo de una de las mujeres, vehículo que pertenecía a otra integrante del grupo.

Cuando las víctimas regresaron al estacionamiento de Main Street, descubrieron que el automóvil había sido robado. Cámaras del Downtown Crime Center captaron a tres hombres subiendo al vehículo y huyendo del lugar.

El incidente ocurrió durante el primer fin de semana con la presencia de la Guardia Nacional en Memphis, desplegada junto a más de una docena de agentes federales como parte de los esfuerzos para combatir la violencia en la ciudad.

When the women rejected their advances, the suspects became angry, began assaulting them, and stole cash. One of the men reached into a woman’s pocket and took the keys to a Dodge Charger, which belonged to another woman in the group.

When the victims returned to the parking lot on Main Street, they discovered that the car was gone. Surveillance footage from the Downtown Crime Center showed three men getting into the vehicle and driving away.

The incident happened during the first weekend of the National Guard’s deployment in Memphis, alongside more than a dozen federal agents working to curb violence in the city.

Despite the increased security presence, it was still a violent weekend in downtown Memphis. Hours after the robbery, around noon, police responded to another fight in the 100 block of Beale Street, where one man was hospitalized in critical condition and another suffered non-critical injuries.

Police said both incidents remain under investigation, and so far, no arrests have been made. Authorities are urging anyone downtown to stay alert and report any suspicious activity immediately.
