(LPL) – Una madre soltera fue arrestada frente a un Home Depot en Midtown Memphis en un operativo que ha generado indignación y temor en la comunidad inmigrante.

Según informó la organización Vecindarios901, la mujer, que no hablaba inglés y tenía un caso migratorio pendiente, fue detenida luego de que patrulleros locales llamaran a agentes de ICE y HSI.

Testigos describieron la escena como “desgarradora”: la madre suplicaba poder quedarse con sus hijos mientras era llevada bajo custodia, acompañada de otra mujer también aterrada.

El arresto ocurrió en la noche, pero fue parte de una jornada marcada por múltiples acciones policiales contra personas inmigrantes y vulnerables en Memphis.

Más temprano, un padre fue detenido por patrulleros estatales en la autopista cuando se dirigía con su esposa y su bebé de siete días a una cita médica.

Los agentes no explicaron el motivo del arresto, dejando a la madre y al recién nacido solos al costado del camino. El hombre fue trasladado a un centro de detención migratoria.

Horas después, unos 20 agentes de diferentes agencias federales, estatales y locales rodearon a dos hombres sin hogar, registraron sus pertenencias y arrestaron a uno de ellos, en lo que voluntarios calificaron como un uso excesivo de fuerza.

Vecindarios901 advirtió que estos no son casos aislados, sino parte de una “escalada deliberada de aplicación de leyes racializadas y antiinmigrantes” en la ciudad.

La organización llamó a la comunidad a mantenerse alerta, documentar posibles abusos y brindar apoyo a las familias afectadas. “Nadie debería vivir con miedo simplemente por existir en Memphis”, expresó el grupo en su comunicado.

Earlier, a father was detained by state troopers on the freeway while driving with his wife and seven-day-old baby to a medical appointment.

The officers did not explain the reason for the arrest, leaving the mother and newborn alone on the side of the road. The man was taken to an immigration detention center.

Hours later, about 20 officers from various federal, state, and local agencies surrounded two homeless men, searched their belongings, and arrested one of them in what volunteers described as an excessive use of force.

Neighborhood901 warned that these are not isolated incidents, but rather part of a “deliberate escalation of racially biased and anti-immigrant enforcement” in the city.

The organization called on the community to remain vigilant, document potential abuses, and provide support to affected families. “No one should have to live in fear simply for existing in Memphis,” the group stated in its press release.
