(LPL) – On Thursday, September 4, Austin Drummond appeared in court for a preliminary hearing where a judge found probable cause to move forward on four counts of first-degree murder and one count of aggravated kidnapping. Drummond is accused of killing four members of the same family in West Tennessee. Their bodies were discovered in Tiptonville shortly after an abandoned baby was found in the front yard of a home in Dyer County, about 25 miles away.

Investigators revealed that the victims—Cortney Rose, her niece and nephew Adrianna and Braydon Williams, and Matthew Wilson, Adrianna’s partner and father of the abandoned baby—died violently. Rose, Adrianna, and Braydon were each shot in the head, while Wilson was struck by at least 11 bullets, according to special agents.

Five law enforcement officers testified for the prosecution, focusing largely on the movements of a phone purchased by 15-year-old Braydon Williams just a day before the killings. That device allowed investigators to trace movements after the murders: from the crime scene to Drummond’s parents’ home in Jackson, and finally to the apartment complex of his girlfriend, Kaitlyn Speed—who is Rose’s sister and the aunt of Adrianna and Braydon.

Evidence also showed that vehicles belonging to the victims were captured on security footage traveling toward the crime scene, while one victim’s truck was later found abandoned in an area known as Bikini Bottoms. Investigators said that, according to confessions from two men accused of aiding Drummond, one of them picked him up from that location after speaking with him on a three-way phone call shortly after the murders.

Authorities added that a Nissan had been rented for Drummond in Jackson, which he picked up and used to drive to Dyer County before the killings.

Drummond, captured in Jackson a week later after a manhunt, remains under a no-contact order with family members of the victims, including his girlfriend Kaitlyn Speed, who is reportedly pregnant with his child. Although the defense requested the order be lifted at Speed’s request, the judge denied it, agreeing with the state’s position that she will likely serve as a key witness in the case.
