Autoridades de Memphis se solidarizan con el oficial hispano Torres-Molina tras ser baleado en parada de tráfico

(LPL) – Un oficial hispano del Departamento de Policía de Memphis resultó gravemente herido la noche del 26 de febrero mientras realizaba una parada de tráfico en la intersección de Aloha Avenue y South Perkins, en el área de Parkway Village.

El agente, identificado como Torres-Molina, fue alcanzado por disparos alrededor de las 8:09 p.m. y posteriormente sometido a cirugía. Actualmente se encuentra en condición crítica pero estable, recibiendo atención médica especializada, mientras sus familiares permanecen a su lado.

Las autoridades identificaron como sospechoso a Danell Jarvis Maxwell, quien es considerado armado y peligroso. La policía mantiene una intensa búsqueda para dar con su paradero.

La jefa del Departamento de Policía de Memphis, C.J. Davis, calificó lo ocurrido como “un acto directo de violencia contra un agente del orden que sirve a esta ciudad” y aseguró que utilizarán todos los recursos disponibles para localizar y arrestar al responsable. “Nuestra prioridad es la recuperación de nuestro oficial y garantizar la seguridad de esta comunidad”, expresó.

Por su parte, el alcalde de Memphis, Paul Young, manifestó públicamente su respaldo al oficial herido y a su familia. “Todos nuestros corazones están con el oficial Torres-Molina y su familia. Lo que le ocurrió es un acto de violencia inaceptable que ningún oficial debería enfrentar mientras sirve a nuestra comunidad”, señaló. El alcalde confirmó que el agente salió de cirugía la noche del incidente y reiteró que la ciudad se mantiene firme en su apoyo a quienes protegen Memphis.

Las autoridades piden a cualquier persona que tenga información sobre el paradero del sospechoso que se comunique de inmediato con el Departamento de Policía de Memphis o con Crime Stoppers al 901-528-CASH.

Memphis Authorities Rally Around Hispanic Officer Torres-Molina After He Is Shot During Traffic Stop

(LPL) – A Hispanic Memphis police officer was seriously wounded the night of February 26 while conducting a traffic stop at Aloha Avenue and South Perkins in the Parkway Village area.

Officer Torres-Molina was shot at approximately 8:09 p.m. and later underwent surgery. He is currently listed in critical but stable condition and is receiving what officials described as excellent medical care. His loved ones remain by his side.

Authorities have identified the suspect as Danell Jarvis Maxwell, who is considered armed and dangerous. A search remains underway.

Memphis Police Chief C.J. Davis called the shooting “a direct act of violence against a law enforcement officer serving this city” and stated that every available resource will be used to locate and apprehend the suspect. “Our focus remains on the recovery of our officer and ensuring the safety of this community,” she said.

Memphis Mayor Paul Young also expressed solidarity with the injured officer and his family. “All of our hearts are with Officer Torres-Molina and his family today. What happened to him is an unacceptable act of violence that no officer should ever face while serving our community,” the mayor said. He confirmed that the officer came out of surgery Thursday night and remains in critical but stable condition.

The mayor added that the city has identified a suspect and is committed to finding, arresting, and prosecuting that individual to the fullest extent of the law. “Memphis stands firmly with Officer Torres-Molina and every officer who serves and protects our city,” Young said.
