Two MPD officers relieved of duty after allegedly drag racing

(LPL/WREG) -Two off-duty MPD officers were arrested by the Tennessee Highway Patrol (THP) for allegedly drag racing over the weekend, according to Memphis Police.

Albert Green, 40, and Raphael Willingham, 37, were both taken into custody Sunday.
MPD stated both officers have been relieved of duty until the investigation is completed, and that their actions do not reflect the standards and expectations of men and women at the department.

According to reports, a trooper said he saw two silver Corvettes traveling on Winchester Road near Hickory Hill Road, excessively driving over the speed limit.
The trooper said that when both suspects saw him, they hit their brakes.
He initiated a traffic stop and asked Green why he was drag racing, and he replied that he was not.
Both were charged with drag racing.
hese arrests come not long after Police Chief CJ Davis spoke to a room of college students about her frustration and concern when it comes to drag racing and reckless driving on city streets.

“Y’all, we need to get our streets under control,” said Davis.” So we all have to be good stewards under the wheel. Everybody does so, we have enforcement operations. How many have seen Tennessee Highway Patrol? Uh-huh and they’re not playing.”
Records show both of the officers are out on a $4,000 bond.

Green appeared in court Monday morning, and Willingham is due in court Tuesday at 9 a.m.
