El autor del atentado de Mánchester es un británico de ascendencia siria

(LPL/EN) – La Policía Antiterrorista británica identificó en un comunicado al autor del atentado terrorista en una sinagoga de Mánchester, que ha dejado dos víctimas mortales y al menos tres heridos, como Jihad Al-Shamie, un ciudadano británico de 35 años y de ascendencia siria.

“Aunque aún no se ha realizado la identificación formal, creemos que el responsable de los atentados de hoy es Jihad Al-Shamie, de 35 años, ciudadano británico de ascendencia siria”, que también murió minutos después del incidente por los disparos de los agentes, según indicaron las autoridades policiales.
Asimismo informaron que hay tres sospechosos que se encuentran bajo custodia, dos hombres de unos 30 años y una mujer de unos 60, y han sido arrestados bajo sospecha de “comisión, preparación e instigación” de actos terroristas.

Del mismo modo, comentaron que continúan las pesquisas para comprender la motivación tras el incidente y aseguraron que no constan registros previos de Al-Shamie en el programa británico de prevención antiterrorista ‘Prevent’.

Alrededor de las 9:30 am del jueves hora local, un hombre fue apuñalado y un auto arrolló de manera intencionada a un grupo de viandantes en el exterior de la sinagoga de la Congregación Hebrea de Heaton Park, al norte de Mánchester, especialmente concurrida por ser Yom Kippur, la celebración más sagrada del calendario judío.

Antes de conocer su identidad, imágenes y videos publicados en redes sociales mostraron el rostro del atacante, que primero podía verse portando algo en su cintura y después ultimado en el suelo.
Las autoridades confirmaron posteriormente que el atacante llevaba un chaleco “que tenía la apariencia de un artefacto explosivo” pero, después de ser analizado por funcionarios especializados en desactivación de bombas, se demostró que este era “inoperativo”.

La policía confirmó que dos de las víctimas mortales pertenecían a la comunidad judía, aunque todavía trabaja en su identificación formal, y dijo que tres hombres permanecen hospitalizados “con heridas graves”.
“Uno sufrió una herida de arma blanca, otro fue atropellado por el vehículo involucrado en el ataque y el tercer hombre se presentó más tarde en el hospital con una lesión que pudo haber sido sufrida cuando los oficiales detuvieron al atacante”, agregó.

Manchester Attacker Is British of Syrian Descent

(LPL/EN) – British Counter Terrorism Police identified the perpetrator of the terrorist attack at a Manchester synagogue, which left two dead and at least three injured, in a statement on Thursday as Jihad Al-Shamie, a 35-year-old British citizen of Syrian descent.

“Although formal identification has not yet been made, we believe the perpetrator of today’s attacks is Jihad Al-Shamie, 35, a British citizen of Syrian descent,” who was also shot dead by officers minutes after the incident, police officials said.
They also reported that three suspects are in custody, two men in their 30s and a woman in her 60s, and have been arrested on suspicion of “commission, preparation, and instigation” of terrorist acts.

Likewise, they commented that investigations are continuing to understand the motivation behind the incident and assured that there are no previous records of Al-Shamie being registered with the British anti-terrorism prevention program “Prevent.”

At around 9:30 a.m. on Thursday local time, a man was stabbed and a car intentionally struck a group of pedestrians outside the Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation synagogue, north of Manchester, which was particularly crowded due to Yom Kippur, the holiest holiday in the Jewish calendar.

Before his identity was known, images and videos posted on social media showed the attacker’s face, who could first be seen carrying something around his waist and then lying dead on the ground.
Authorities later confirmed that the attacker was wearing a vest “that had the appearance of an explosive device,” but after analysis by bomb disposal experts, it was found to be “inoperative.”

Police confirmed that two of the victims were members of the Jewish community, although they are still working on formal identification. They said three men remain hospitalized “with serious injuries.”
“One suffered a stab wound, another was struck by the vehicle involved in the attack, and the third man later showed up at the hospital with an injury that may have been sustained while officers detained the attacker,” they added.
