Ex vicegobernador de Virginia Justin Fairfax mató a su esposa y luego se suicidó, según la policía

Cerina Fairfax presentó la demanda de divorcio el 18 de julio de 2025 y el caso sigue pendiente, según registros del Tribunal de Circuito del condado de Fairfax. Una orden emitida el 10 de abril instruía a Justin Fairfax a comparecer ante el tribunal el 21 de abril, muestran los registros.

Los detectives revisaron el caso con ayuda de “muchas cámaras” instaladas dentro de la vivienda como parte del proceso de divorcio, dijo Davis. ¿Cómo ocurrió el tiroteo?

Al parecer, Fairfax le disparó varias veces a su esposa en el sótano de la casa antes de subir corriendo al dormitorio principal, donde se disparó y murió, dijo Davis. La pareja había estado viviendo junta en habitaciones separadas mientras atravesaba la separación, agregó.

El mismo arma de fuego parece haber sido usada en ambos disparos, dijo Davis.

Un audio de las comunicaciones de emergencia grabado por Broadcastify capta los momentos posteriores al incidente, cuando el hijo de la pareja llamó al 911.
“Quien llama dice que su papá podría haber apuñalado a su mamá”, se escucha decir a una despachadora en el audio. La operadora agrega que el menor dijo que ella estaba “tirada en el suelo, sangrando” y con agujeros en la camisa.

Luego se escucha en el audio a los agentes buscando al sospechoso, hasta que finalmente encuentran a un hombre que coincidía con la descripción y tenía una herida de bala autoinfligida.

“Creo que este va a ser nuestro sospechoso. Tiene un arma de fuego y una herida de bala autoinfligida en la cabeza”, se escucha decir a uno de los agentes.

Alrededor de las 10 a.m. de este jueves se pudo ver cómo retiraban dos cuerpos de la vivienda en bolsas para cadáveres sobre camillas.

“Es muy trágico para los hijos perder a ambos padres, y aún más trágico que estuvieran dentro de la casa cuando ocurrió”, dijo Davis este jueves por la mañana. “Sin duda es una caída estrepitosa para una familia relativamente conocida que aparentemente tenía muchas cosas a su favor”.

Los hijos están bajo el cuidado de sus abuelos y otros familiares, con apoyo de la división de servicios a víctimas del Departamento de Policía del condado de Fairfax, dijo Davis.

(LPL/CNN) – Former Virginia Lieutenant Governor Justin Fairfax—whose tenure was marked by allegations of sexual assault—shot and killed his wife, Cerina Fairfax, inside their home before taking his own life, police reported.

The couple’s two teenage children were inside the residence when the shootings occurred, said Kevin Davis, the Fairfax County Police Chief. As he explained, it was one of the children who called 911.

Fairfax County police responded to the couple’s home in Annandale, Virginia, in the early hours of Thursday morning. There, they found a man and a woman dead, authorities had previously reported. The same firearm appears to have been used in both shootings, Davis said.

The shooting stemmed from an ongoing domestic dispute related to “what appears to be a complicated or contentious divorce,” Davis stated.

Cerina Fairfax filed for divorce on July 18, 2025, and the case remains pending, according to records from the Fairfax County Circuit Court. An order issued on April 10 directed Justin Fairfax to appear in court on April 21, records show.

Detectives reviewed the case with the aid of “many cameras” installed inside the home as part of the divorce proceedings, Davis said. He also noted that a call Justin Fairfax made to the police in January—in which he alleged an assault by his wife—could not be corroborated.

How Did the Shooting Unfold?

Fairfax apparently shot his wife multiple times in the home’s basement before running upstairs to the master bedroom, where he shot himself and died, Davis said. The couple had been living together in separate rooms while going through their separation, he added.

The same firearm appears to have been used in both shootings, Davis said. Audio of emergency communications recorded by Broadcastify captures the moments following the incident, when the couple’s son called 911.
“The caller says his dad might have stabbed his mom,” a dispatcher is heard saying in the audio. The operator adds that the minor stated she was “lying on the floor, bleeding,” and had holes in her shirt.

Agents are then heard in the audio searching for the suspect, until they finally locate a man matching the description who had a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

“I think this is going to be our suspect. He has a firearm and a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the head,” one of the agents is heard saying.

Around 10 a.m. this Thursday, two bodies were seen being removed from the home in body bags on stretchers.

“It is very tragic for children to lose both parents, and even more tragic that they were inside the house when it happened,” Davis said Thursday morning. “It is undoubtedly a precipitous fall for a relatively well-known family that seemingly had a lot going for them.”

The children are under the care of their grandparents and other relatives, with support from the Fairfax County Police Department’s Victim Services Division, Davis said.

“Half of America probably goes through a divorce at some point, and very rarely—fortunately—does it end like this,” Davis said. “It is very sad for this community… many people who know the Fairfax family are in shock. We are, too.”
