Hombre que mató de un disparo en la cabeza a un anciano cerca de Millington fue arrestado

(LPL/WREG) – Un hombre acusado de dispararle a otro hombre en la cabeza cerca de la zona de Millington el lunes ha sido detenido por la Oficina del Sheriff del Condado de Shelby.

Daniel Opitz, de 36 años, está siendo acusado de asesinato en primer grado y posesión de arma de fuego durante la comisión de un delito grave.
Los agentes afirman que respondieron a una llamada por asesinato a las 11:10 a. m. en la cuadra 4400 de Bonnie Brae Drive.

Los agentes informaron que hablaron con un vecino de la víctima, quien les contó que encontró al hombre inconsciente y sangrando por la cabeza en su habitación.
El hombre fue identificado como Randall Taylor, de 69 años.

El vecino dijo que la hija de su vecino fallecido salió corriendo de la casa gritando y llorando. Luego, dijo que Opitz, su hermanastro, la abrazó y le dijo insistentemente “Te amo”, antes de alejarse del lugar con rumbo desconocido. Los agentes llegaron al lugar de los hechos y entraron en la casa de la víctima, donde lo encontraron sentado en una silla en la esquina trasera de la habitación, con hematomas en el lado izquierdo de la cara y sangre corriendo por su cabeza.

Se le practicaron medidas para salvarle la vida y fue trasladada al Hospital Methodist North, donde un médico le declaró muerto a su llegada.

Los agentes buscaron a Opitz por los alrededores y lo localizaron cerca de Duncan Road y Raleigh Millington Road, donde fue detenido de inmediato.
Los detectives afirman que Opitz se negó a declarar y les dijo que “la posible arma utilizada no se encontraría en un lugar público”.
Tras una investigación exhaustiva, los detectives informaron que las imágenes de video muestran a Opitz fuera de la residencia de la víctima con una camiseta blanca y pantalones cortos grises antes del tiroteo, y posteriormente con una camiseta negra y pantalones cortos grises en el jardín delantero.

Los detectives afirman haber visto a Opitz impidiendo que su hermanastra entrara a la casa, y cuando ella lo hizo y volvió a salir, lo vieron alejarse en dirección oeste.

Los investigadores hablaron con la hermanastra de Opitz, quien confirmó lo que les dijo inicialmente el vecino. También hablaron con el hermano biológico de Opitz, quien les contó que su hermano mató a la víctima porque abusó sexualmente de un familiar.

Opitz comparecerá ante el tribunal el miércoles a las 9:00 a. m.

Man arrested after shooting elderly man in the head near Millington

(LPL/WREG) – A man accused of shooting another man in the head near the Millington area on Monday has been detained by Shelby County Sheriff’s.

Daniel Opitz, 36, is being charged with first-degree murder and possessing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony.
Deputies say they responded to a murder call at 11:10 a.m. in the 4400 block of Bonnie Brae Drive.

Deputies reported they talked to a neighbor of the victim, who told them he found the man unresponsive and bleeding from the head in his bedroom.
The man was identified as 69-year-old Randall Taylor.

The neighbor said the daughter of his deceased neighbor ran out of the home screaming and crying. He then said the daughter was hugged by Opitz, who is her step-brother, and persistently stated, “I love you,” before he walked away from the scene in an unknown direction.
Deputies arrived at the scene and made their way into the home of the victim and found him sitting in a chair in the back corner of the bedroom with bruising to the left side of his face and blood running down from his head.

Life-saving measures were performed on the victim, and he was taken to Methodist North, where he was pronounced dead on arrival by a doctor.

Deputies searched the surrounding area for Opitz, and he was located near Duncan Road and Raleigh Millington Road and was immediately taken into custody.
Detectives say Opitz refused to give a statement and told them that the “possible gun used won’t be found in a public area.”
After a thorough investigation was conducted, detectives said video footage showed Opitz outside of the victim’s residence wearing a white t-shirt and grey shorts before the shooting and was later seen wearing a black shirt and grey shorts in the front yard.

Detectives then say they saw Opitz stopping his step-sister from going inside the home, and when she did and came back out, they saw him walk away going westbound.

Investigators spoke with Opitz’s step-sister, and she confirmed what the neighbor initially told them. They also talked to Opitz’s biological brother, who told them his brother killed the victim because he molested one of their family members.

Opitz is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday at 9 a.m.
