Se trata de Marlon Méndez (28), Rudy Pérez (31) y Francis Yáñez (52), todos originarios de Copán, Honduras, y quienes habían sido reportados como desaparecidos luego de ser vistos nadando y pescando cerca de un banco de arena en el parque estatal Meeman-Shelby Forest, en la zona noroeste del condado.
La búsqueda comenzó el martes alrededor de las 7:15 p.m., pero fue suspendida tras tres horas debido a la baja visibilidad. Las labores se reanudaron la mañana del miércoles y, cerca de las 11:40 a.m., se localizaron los dos primeros cuerpos. Horas más tarde fue encontrado el tercero.
La recuperación de los cuerpos estuvo a cargo de múltiples agencias, incluyendo el equipo de Búsqueda y Rescate del sheriff, el Departamento de Seguridad Nacional, bomberos de Shelby, Millington y Tipton, unidades especializadas de la Policía de Memphis, y representantes de los parques estatales de Tennessee.

The bodies of the three Hispanic men who drowned in the Mississippi River have been identified
(LPL) – Shelby County authorities confirmed the identities of the three men found dead in the Mississippi River following an intensive search operation that began Tuesday night. They are Marlon Méndez, 28, Rudy Pérez, 31, and Francis Yáñez, 52, all originally from Copán, Honduras, who had been reported missing after being seen swimming and fishing near a sandbar in Meeman-Shelby Forest State Park in the northwest part of the county.
The search began Tuesday around 7:15 p.m. but was suspended after three hours due to low visibility. The search resumed Wednesday morning, and around 11:40 a.m., the first two bodies were located. The third was found hours later. The recovery of the bodies was handled by multiple agencies, including the sheriff’s Search and Rescue team, the Department of Homeland Security, firefighters from Shelby, Millington, and Tipton, specialized units from the Memphis Police Department, and representatives from Tennessee State Parks.
Although the exact cause of death will be determined by the medical examiner, family members and loved ones have already been notified, and authorities are coordinating with the Honduran consulate to complete the necessary procedures.
