Memphis to Celebrate Día de Muertos with a Parade and Free Festival

(LPL) – Memphis will celebrate Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) on Saturday, October 24, with a parade, music, and free cultural activities designed to honor deceased loved ones and share Mexican traditions with the community.

The event is organized by the Cazateatro Bilingual Theatre Group, in collaboration with the Memphis Art Museum and the Orpheum Theatre Group.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. at Court Square Park and travel along the Main Street pedestrian walkway toward Beale Street. The procession will feature participants dressed as catrinas and catrines—complete with skull-themed makeup—as well as Aztec dancers, school bands, and lowrider vehicles.

Following the parade, from 12 p.m. to 3 p.m., festivities will continue at the Halloran Centre, featuring art workshops, face painting, music and dance performances, local vendor stalls, and food.

The lineup includes bilingual singer and DJ Alexis White, Mariachi Guadalajara, and the GRAMMY-winning duo 123 Andrés, who will perform a bilingual concert geared toward children and families.

The celebration is part of the Memphis Art Museum’s «Community Days» series, which promotes free artistic and cultural experiences. Unlike in previous years, when the event was held at Overton Park, this year’s edition will take place in downtown Memphis—ahead of the museum’s scheduled opening on December 6.

Admission to the parade and festival is free, though advance registration is encouraged. The organizers also invite businesses and organizations to participate as vendors, collaborators, or sponsors.
