Perú suma su séptimo presidente desde 2016 tras la abrupta destitución de Dina Boluarte

(LPL/EN) – La presidenta de Perú, Dina Boluarte, fue destituida este jueves de manera fulminante en el Congreso de Perú, controlado por un grupo de partidos de derecha que la había sostenido desde que asumió el poder y que ahora la sacó del sillón presidencial de forma abrupta y con la mirada puesta en las elecciones generales convocadas para abril de 2026.

Tras aprobar con 122 votos a favor la “permanente incapacidad moral” de la mandataria para hacer frente al auge del crimen organizado en el país, la vacante de Boluarte fue ocupada de manera interina por el presidente del Parlamento, el derechista José Jerí, que inmediatamente fue investido como jefe de Estado y se convirtió en el séptimo presidente de Perú en apenas nueve años.
Así, Perú escribió en pocas horas un nuevo capítulo de su larga convulsión política que vive desde 2016, donde ningún presidente ha podido completar un mandato completo y todos han terminado destituidos por un Parlamento opositor al que no podían dominar.

Precisamente, Boluarte se ufanaba hasta hace poco de haber roto ese ciclo al señalar que era la presidenta que más tiempo había durado desde Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) gracias a haber conciliado con las fuerzas políticas que dominan el Legislativo, pero ese equilibrio saltó por los aires este jueves.
La primera mujer presidenta de Perú quedó destituida tras dos años y diez meses en el cargo, fulminada por los partidos a los que había confiado poder llegar hasta el 28 de julio de 2026, tras haber sido elegida vicepresidenta de Pedro Castillo en 2021 y sucederle en el cargo cuando intentó un fallido golpe de Estado para evitar su destitución por el mismo Congreso.

Peru adds its seventh president since 2016 after the abrupt dismissal of Dina Boluarte

(LPL/EN) – Peruvian President Dina Boluarte was abruptly dismissed this Thursday by the Peruvian Congress, controlled by a group of right-wing parties that had supported her since she took power and now abruptly removed her from the presidency with their eyes on the general elections scheduled for April 2026.

After approving with 122 votes the president’s “permanent moral incapacity” to confront the rise of organized crime in the country, Boluarte’s vacancy was filled on an interim basis by the Speaker of Parliament, right-wing José Jerí, who was immediately sworn in as head of state and became Peru’s seventh president in just nine years.
Thus, in just a few hours, Peru wrote a new chapter in its long political turmoil since 2016, where no president has been able to complete a full term and all have been removed from office by an opposition parliament they could not control.

Indeed, until recently, Boluarte boasted of having broken that cycle, pointing out that she was the longest-serving president since Ollanta Humala (2011-2016) thanks to her reconciliation with the political forces that dominate the legislature. However, that balance was shattered this Thursday.
Peru’s first female president was removed after two years and ten months in office, ousted by the parties she had trusted to power her term until July 28, 2026, after being elected vice president to Pedro Castillo in 2021 and succeeding him when she attempted a failed coup d’état to prevent her removal by the same Congress.
