Presentan cargos federales contra 11 tras operativos de la MSTF, incluidos tres hispanos

Según la denuncia, Luis Cordova fue detenido el 1 de octubre tras supuestamente pasarse una luz roja y conducir sin licencia válida. Cuando un alguacil intentó esposarlo, habría intentado escapar.

El 23 de octubre, Luis Gonzalez fue detenido por usar placas fraudulentas. Las autoridades señalan que huyó a alta velocidad y casi atropella a un agente al evitar las tiras poncha llantas, lo que derivó en un cargo por asalto a un oficial federal.

Días después, el 29 de octubre, Jesús Escobar-Villalta fue parado por troopers estatales. Presentó una identificación falsa y, según la acusación, se negó a salir del vehículo, trató de arrebatar el arma de un agente y mordió a un alguacil. Enfrenta cargos por asalto contra un oficial federal.

Además de ellos, otros ocho acusados —Demario Burton, Montavious Neal, Christopher Vanzant, Sanchon Dillup-Jones, Nicomedes Jimenez, Justin Hardaway, Khaulee Harrison y Shone Pugh— fueron imputados por incidentes que incluyen persecuciones, choques intencionales contra patrullas y agresiones durante detenciones.

El fiscal Mike Dunavant recordó que no existe derecho a resistir un arresto y advirtió que cualquier agresión contra un oficial será procesada con el máximo rigor. “Si tocas a un agente de la ley, iremos tras ti”, afirmó.

Among those charged are three Hispanic individuals: Luis Cordova (26), Luis Gonzalez (28), and Jesús Escobar-Villalta (30), who face accusations ranging from attempting to flee and resisting arrest to physically attacking federal agents.

According to authorities, Luis Cordova was stopped on October 1 after allegedly running a red light and driving without a valid license. When a U.S. Marshal attempted to handcuff him, Cordova reportedly tried to escape.

On October 23, Luis Gonzalez was pulled over for fraudulent license plates. Officers say he sped away at high speed and nearly struck an agent while avoiding spike strips, leading to a federal assault charge.

Days later, on October 29, Jesús Escobar-Villalta was stopped by state troopers. He allegedly presented a fake Honduras ID and refused to exit his vehicle. Authorities claim he attempted to pull a trooper’s firearm from its holster and bit a U.S. Marshal. He is charged with assaulting a federal officer.

In addition to the Hispanic defendants, eight others —Demario Burton, Montavious Neal, Christopher Vanzant, Sanchon Dillup-Jones, Nicomedes Jimenez, Justin Hardaway, Khaulee Harrison, and Shone Pugh— were charged for incidents involving high-speed chases, intentionally ramming patrol vehicles, and assaults during arrests.

U.S. Attorney Mike Dunavant emphasized that there is no constitutional right to resist arrest, warning that any attack on law enforcement will be prosecuted aggressively. “If you touch a law enforcement officer, we will come after you,” he stated.
