Tiroteo contra fuerza especial desata amplio despliegue policial en Raleigh

(LPL) – El FBI abrió una investigación luego de que miembros de la “Memphis Safe Task Force” fueran atacados a tiros la noche del sábado en el área de Raleigh.

Según confirmó la Oficina de Asuntos Públicos del United States Marshals Service, las autoridades respondieron inicialmente a un reporte de disparos en la cuadra 3400 de Felton Road. Mientras los integrantes del grupo especial se encontraban fuera de sus vehículos investigando, una persona disparó en varias ocasiones contra las patrullas, impactando al menos una de ellas.

Las autoridades informaron que ningún agente resultó herido y que ninguno de los oficiales en la escena disparó sus armas.

El operativo se extendió durante horas. Equipos de distintas agencias —incluyendo la Policía de Memphis, la oficina del alguacil y patrulleros estatales— acordonaron la zona cercana a Felton Road y New Allen Road, mientras buscaban al sospechoso en un área boscosa y en un tráiler ubicado en las inmediaciones.

Vecinos describieron la escena como “sacada de una película”. Una residente, que pidió permanecer en el anonimato, relató que agentes federales tocaron la puerta de la vivienda donde se encontraba con su madre y dos niños, y les indicaron que debían evacuar o permanecer dentro y moverse hacia la parte más alejada de la casa por razones de seguridad.

Testigos dijeron haber escuchado a las autoridades ordenar por altavoz que una persona saliera del tráiler con las manos en alto. La zona permaneció bajo cierre durante gran parte de la madrugada del domingo y hasta horas de la tarde, mientras continuaba la búsqueda.

Un portavoz de la fuerza especial reiteró que, pese a la gravedad del incidente, ningún oficial resultó lesionado y no fue necesario que los agentes respondieran con disparos, algo que residentes agradecieron.

Hasta el momento, el FBI no ha identificado públicamente a sospechosos ni ha confirmado arrestos relacionados con este caso, que sigue bajo investigación.

Shooting at Special Task Force Sparks Major Police Response in Raleigh

(LPL) – The Federal Bureau of Investigation launched an investigation after members of the Memphis Safe Task Force were shot at Saturday night in the Raleigh area.

According to the U.S. Marshals Service Office of Public Affairs, authorities initially responded to a shots-fired call in the 3400 block of Felton Road. While task force members were outside their vehicles investigating, someone fired multiple rounds at the patrol vehicles, striking at least one of them.

Officials said no law enforcement officers were injured, and none of the officers at the scene discharged their weapons.

The operation lasted for hours. Agencies including Memphis Police, the sheriff’s department, and state troopers secured the area near Felton Road and New Allen Road while searching for the suspect in a wooded area and a nearby trailer.

Neighbors described the scene as something “out of a movie.” One resident, who asked to remain anonymous, said FBI agents knocked on her door while she was inside with her mother and two children. Agents told them to evacuate or remain inside and move to the far side of the home for safety reasons.

Witnesses said they heard law enforcement over a loudspeaker ordering someone to come out of the trailer with their hands up. The area remained locked down from early Sunday morning into the afternoon as the search continued.

A task force spokesperson reiterated that despite the seriousness of the incident, no officers were injured and none had to return fire — something residents said they were grateful for.

As of now, the FBI has not publicly identified any suspects or confirmed any arrests in connection with the case, which remains under investigation.
