Trump dice que hará pagar el doble a España por no aceptar invertir 5% en defensa

(LPL/AFP) – El presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, criticó este miércoles la negativa de España de invertir 5% de su PIB en defensa, tal y como establece la OTAN, y aseguró que negociará directamente con Madrid un acuerdo comercial y que hará pagar al país el doble para compensar esa situación.

“Voy a negociar directamente con España. Lo haré yo mismo. Van a pagar. Así pagarán más”, dijo Trump en rueda de prensa ofrecida durante la cumbre de la Alianza en La Haya.

“Vamos a negociar un acuerdo comercial con España. Les vamos a hacer pagar el doble. Y lo digo en serio. Vamos a lograrlo”, insistió el mandatario republicano, pese a que Madrid negocia sus acuerdos comerciales con Washington de manera colectiva como miembro de la Unión Europea (UE).

Las palabras de Trump hacen pensar que su gobierno, que está negociando con Bruselas un nuevo pacto tras amenazar con aranceles de hasta 50% para corregir lo que califica de déficits injustos, busque ahora gravar partidas concretas de bienes europeos que puedan afectar especialmente a España.

“(España) es un lugar fantástico, y son gente estupenda, pero España es el único país, de todos los países, que se niega a pagar y, saben, quieren que les salga gratis, pero tendrán que devolvernos el dinero a través del comercio, porque no voy a permitir que eso ocurra. Es injusto”, subrayó.

Trump aseguró que España “ha sido el más hostil” de los miembros de la OTAN frente a la idea de incrementar el volumen del gasto en defensa. “Simplemente no le veo sentido”, recalcó.

“Creo que España es terrible. Son el único país que no pagará el monto completo. Quieren quedarse en el 2%. Creo que es terrible. Y, como saben, les va muy bien. La economía va muy bien. Y esa economía podría hundirse por completo si algo malo ocurre”, dijo.

“Es el único país que no paga. No sé cuál es el problema”, repitió Trump, que llegó a la OTAN enfocado en lograr que los aliados se comprometieran a cumplir el nuevo aumento en los próximos 10 años.

Washington estima que el umbral actual del gasto es “ridículo” y considera que todos los miembros del bloque están capacitados para asumir ese aumento.
