Bache gigante en Raleigh deja vehículo dañado; autoridades evalúan reparación

(LPL/WREG) – Una conductora expresó su frustración luego de que su vehículo resultara dañado el fin de semana tras caer en un enorme bache en la zona de Raleigh, en Memphis, mientras transitaba por una vía principal en medio de una zona de construcción.

Torya Williams le relató al medio local WREG que el incidente ocurrió cuando se dirigía a la iglesia el domingo. Al notar que se aproximaba a un tramo en obras, redujo la velocidad; sin embargo, dijo que al llegar al área observó un bache de gran tamaño en la carretera. Intentó esquivarlo para evitar daños, pero al maniobrar terminó impactando otro hueco profundo que provocó un fuerte movimiento en su SUV.

Williams explicó que, tras el golpe, tuvo que detenerse porque una pieza protectora ubicada debajo del vehículo quedó desprendida. Según indicó, esa parte sirve para resguardar componentes mecánicos del automóvil, y su desprendimiento generó daños que ahora deberá reparar.

La conductora señaló que el bache parecía haber sido rellenado únicamente con grava, lo que calificó como una solución temporal insuficiente. Además, manifestó su preocupación por el costo de las reparaciones, indicando que su vehículo es el único medio de transporte con el que cuenta para movilizarse a sus actividades diarias.

Williams dijo que planea presentar un reclamo formal por los daños y pidió a las autoridades que realicen reparaciones permanentes en la vía para evitar que otros conductores enfrenten situaciones similares.

Tras el incidente, el Tennessee Department of Transportation le indicó al canal de noticias que el bache parece estar “dentro del alcance” de un proyecto de construcción cercano. Un portavoz de la agencia señaló que la empresa de servicios públicos Memphis Light, Gas and Water realizó trabajos en el área y ahora se le ha solicitado colocar una placa metálica temporal sobre el hueco hasta que pueda repararse de forma definitiva.

Noticing the roadwork, she slowed down; however, she said that upon reaching the area, she saw a large pothole in the road. She tried to avoid it to prevent damage, but in doing so, she hit another deep pothole that caused her SUV to jolt violently.

Williams explained that after the impact, she had to stop because a protective piece located underneath the vehicle came loose. She indicated that this piece protects mechanical components of the car, and its detachment caused damage that she will now have to repair.

The driver noted that the pothole appeared to have been filled only with gravel, which she described as an insufficient temporary solution. She also expressed concern about the cost of repairs, noting that her vehicle is her only means of transportation for getting to her daily activities.

Williams said she plans to file a formal claim for the damages and asked authorities to make permanent repairs to the road to prevent other drivers from facing similar situations.

Following the incident, the Tennessee Department of Transportation told the news channel that the pothole appears to be “within the scope” of a nearby construction project. An agency spokesperson stated that the utility company Memphis Light, Gas and Water had been working in the area and has now been asked to place a temporary metal plate over the pothole until it can be permanently repaired.

Authorities indicated that the situation remains under evaluation while they coordinate the necessary actions to repair the road and prevent further damage to vehicles traveling in the area.
