(LPL) – Un peatón falleció la mañana de este miércoles luego de ser atropellado en la Interestatal 240, cerca de South Parkway, en Memphis, informaron las autoridades.

El Memphis Police Department (MPD) respondió al llamado alrededor de las 7:30 a.m. por un accidente en la Interstate 240, en las inmediaciones de South Parkway East. Al llegar al lugar, los agentes confirmaron que un peatón había sido impactado por un vehículo y fue declarado muerto en la escena.

Según la policía, el conductor involucrado permaneció en el lugar del incidente y está colaborando con la investigación. No se han dado a conocer más detalles sobre las circunstancias del choque.

Cámaras del Departamento de Transporte de Tennessee mostraron que todos los carriles en dirección sur fueron cerrados temporalmente, lo que provocó importantes retrasos en el tráfico durante la mañana. Pedestrian killed after being struck on I-240 near South Parkway in Memphis

A pedestrian died Wednesday morning after being struck on Interstate 240 near South Parkway in Memphis, authorities said.

The Memphis Police Department responded to the call around 7:30 a.m. regarding a crash on I-240 near South Parkway East. When officers arrived, they confirmed that a pedestrian had been hit by a vehicle and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police said the driver involved remained at the location and is cooperating with the investigation. No additional details about the circumstances of the crash have been released.

Traffic cameras from the Tennessee Department of Transportation showed that all southbound lanes were temporarily shut down, causing significant delays during the morning commute. Hours after the initial report — which was also logged around 6:45 a.m., according to another police record — traffic in the area remained at a standstill.

Authorities said the lanes will remain closed “until further notice” as the investigation into the fatal crash continues.
