Kast prueba la fórmula de Trump en Chile: expulsa a 40 migrantes en avión y anuncia más vuelos

(LPL/CNN) – El jueves despegó desde Santiago el primer avión con 40 migrantes expulsados de Chile por el Gobierno del presidente José Antonio Kast.

La medida busca cumplir con una de sus principales promesas de campaña: expulsar a más de 300.000 migrantes en situación irregular del país austral, la mayoría de ellos provenientes de Venezuela. Sin embargo, en este primer vuelo no había ningún ciudadano venezolano.

“Nos entregaron un país con más de 300.000 extranjeros en situación irregular, algunos vinculados a redes de crimen organizado. Uno de los primeros decretos que firmamos fue la implementación del Plan Escudo Fronterizo, para comenzar a cerrar nuestras fronteras mediante la instalación de zanjas, muros, tecnología de vigilancia y un despliegue conjunto del Ejército, Carabineros y la Policía de Investigaciones (PDI) en la macrozona norte”, dijo Kast este miércoles en una cadena nacional, advirtiendo que aumentarán la cantidad de vuelos en las próximas semanas.

En este primer avión -un Boeing 737 de la Fuerza Aérea de Chile (Fach)- solo fueron expulsados ciudadanos extranjeros provenientes de Bolivia, Ecuador y Colombia, mismos destinos de la aeronave que, además, trasladaba a un fuerte contingente de la Policía de Investigaciones de Chile (PDI).

“Las expulsiones se hacen, no se anuncian”, señaló el subsecretario del Interior, Máximo Pavez, este jueves en una rueda de prensa. Agregó que las autoridades buscarán aumentar la frecuencia de estos vuelos y también evaluarán la posibilidad de realizar expulsiones en buses y vuelos comerciales.

Al ser consultado sobre los migrantes venezolanos en situación irregular, Pavez dijo que están viendo opciones, pero evitó dar más detalles “por motivos de seguridad”. Esto ocurre luego de que Chile y Venezuela rompieran lazos diplomáticos tras las elecciones presidenciales de julio de 2024 en Venezuela.

Por su parte, el director de migraciones de Chile, Frank Sauerbaum Muñoz, aseguró que “2.180 venezolanos salieron de Chile voluntariamente desde que el presidente Kast ganó la elección”.

Al ser consultado sobre cómo lograría el Gobierno de Kast expulsar a 300.000 migrantes irregulares en los cuatro años que dura su administración, Pavez evitó dar información específica al respecto.

(LPL/CNN) – On Thursday, the first plane carrying 40 migrants expelled from Chile by the government of President José Antonio Kast took off from Santiago.

The measure aims to fulfill one of his key campaign promises: to expel more than 300,000 migrants in an irregular situation from the southern nation—the majority of whom hail from Venezuela. However, this first flight did not carry any Venezuelan citizens.

“We were handed a country with over 300,000 foreigners in an irregular situation, some linked to organized crime networks. One of the first decrees we signed was the implementation of the ‘Border Shield Plan,’ designed to begin sealing our borders through the installation of trenches, walls, surveillance technology, and a joint deployment of the Army, the Carabineros, and the Investigative Police (PDI) in the northern macro-zone,” Kast stated this Wednesday during a national address, warning that the frequency of these flights would increase in the coming weeks.

On this initial flight—a Boeing 737 belonging to the Chilean Air Force (FACh)—only foreign nationals from Bolivia, Ecuador, and Colombia were expelled; these nations also served as the aircraft’s destinations. Additionally, the plane carried a heavy contingent of officers from Chile’s Investigative Police (PDI).

“Expulsions are carried out; they are not announced,” noted Undersecretary of the Interior Máximo Pavez during a press conference this Thursday. He added that authorities would seek to increase the frequency of these flights and would also evaluate the possibility of conducting expulsions via buses and commercial airlines.

When asked about Venezuelan migrants in an irregular situation, Pavez stated that authorities are currently exploring options but declined to provide further details “for security reasons.” This development follows the severance of diplomatic ties between Chile and Venezuela in the wake of the July 2024 presidential elections in Venezuela. For his part, Chile’s Director of Migration, Frank Sauerbaum Muñoz, stated that “2,180 Venezuelans have left Chile voluntarily since President Kast won the election.”
