Adolescente muere baleado en Whitehaven tras salir del baile de graduación, confirma la familia

(LPL/WREG) -El Departamento de Policía de Memphis está investigando un tiroteo ocurrido en la madrugada del domingo en el área de Whitehaven, el cual dejó a un joven fallecido tras una noche de celebraciones, según familiares de la víctima.

Los agentes informaron que acudieron al lugar de los hechos, en la cuadra 4600 de Elvis Presley Boulevard —justo a la salida de E. Shelby Drive—, alrededor de la 1:41 a.m., en la tienda de conveniencia Hop-In.
Según personas cercanas a la víctima, su nombre era LaDainian Cathey y murió tras recibir disparos después de haber asistido a su baile de graduación.

“Me rompió el corazón enterarme de eso”, comentó Shana Odie.
La policía indicó que se encontró a una víctima masculina, quien fue trasladada al hospital en estado crítico, donde posteriormente falleció.
Odie expresó que la violencia la tiene preocupada por sus propios hijos, quienes están a punto de comenzar la escuela secundaria.
Ella sostiene que, si bien la existencia de más programas extraescolares y de verano es excelente, dichas opciones deben ser asequibles para los padres.

“Hay muchas actividades disponibles aquí, pero son costosas”, explicó. “Debería haber campamentos que les brinden las mismas oportunidades que obtendría otro niño cuyos padres gastan miles de dólares”.
“Parece que estamos llegando a un punto en el que casi te ves obligado a educar a tus hijos en casa”, compartió James. “Vas a la escuela y parece haber violencia; sales de tu casa y también hay violencia. Es como si no hubiera escapatoria. No le encuentro sentido. Es como si los chicos ya no pudieran ser simplemente chicos”.
La policía no ha revelado qué circunstancias desencadenaron el tiroteo ni a quiénes consideran responsables del mismo.

Las autoridades informaron que los sospechosos fueron vistos por última vez a bordo de un vehículo Mercedes GLK de color negro.

Teen Shot to Death in Whitehaven After Leaving Prom, Family Confirms

(LPL/WREG) – Police are investigating a shooting that occurred early Sunday morning in the Whitehaven area, leaving a young man dead following a night of celebrations, according to the victim’s family members.

Officers reported responding to the scene—in the 4600 block of Elvis Presley Boulevard, just off E. Shelby Drive—around 1:41 a.m. at the Hop-In convenience store.
According to people close to the victim, his name was LaDainian Cathey, and he died after being shot following his attendance at his high school prom.

“It broke my heart to hear that,” commented Shana Odie.
Police stated that a male victim was found at the scene; he was transported to the hospital in critical condition, where he subsequently died.
Odie expressed that the violence has left her concerned for her own children, who are about to start high school.
She maintains that while the existence of more after-school and summer programs is excellent, such options must be affordable for parents.

“There are a lot of activities available here, but they are expensive,” she explained. “There should be camps that provide them with the same opportunities that another child—whose parents spend thousands of dollars—would get.”
“It feels like we’re reaching a point where you’re almost forced to homeschool your kids,” shared James. “You go to school and there seems to be violence; you step outside your house and there’s violence there, too. It’s like there’s no escape. It makes no sense to me. It’s as if kids can’t just be kids anymore.”
Police have not disclosed the circumstances that triggered the shooting, nor have they identified anyone they consider responsible for it.
