Cuba afirma que los ocupantes de la lancha interceptada tenían “fines terroristas”

(LPL/EN) – El Ministerio del Interior cubano afirmó este miércoles que los diez ocupantes de la lancha rápida procedente de EE UU interceptada en sus aguas territoriales “tenían intenciones de realizar una infiltración con fines terroristas”.

La lancha, según un comunicado previo de las autoridades cubanas, había entrado de forma ilegal en aguas territoriales. Sus tripulantes comenzaron a disparar sobre la embarcación de las Tropas Guardafronteras que les dio el alto infructuosamente para proceder a su identificación.
Cuatro de los tripulantes de la lancha fueron abatidos por las fuerzas cubanas y los otros seis resultaron heridos. Además, un oficial cubano tuvo que se atendido.

El Ministerio del Interior indicó que todos los heridos son cubanos residentes en EE UU. Además informó de la incautación de “fusiles de asalto, armas cortas, artefactos explosivos de construcción artesanal (cocteles molotov), chalecos antibalas, mirillas telescópicas y uniformes de camuflaje”.
Entre los heridos, destacó a Amijail Sánchez González y Leordan Enrique Cruz Gómez, que el gobierno cubano ya había incluido en su lista terrorista.

En concreto, ambos se encontraban en el capítulo de personas “sometidas a investigaciones penales” y en búsqueda y captura por su “implicación en la promoción, planificación, organización, financiamiento, apoyo o comisión de acciones materializadas en el territorio nacional o en otros países, en función de actos de terrorismo”.

También se identificaron entre los heridos a Conrado Galindo Sariol, José Manuel Rodríguez Castelló, Cristian Ernesto Acosta Guevara y Roberto Azcorra Consuegra.

Además, las autoridades cubanas identificaron a Michel Ortega Casanova, también cubano residente en EE UU, como uno de los cuatro fallecidos, mientras siguen las investigaciones sobre la identidad de los otros tres.

También, el Ministerio del Interior informó de la incautación de “fusiles de asalto, armas cortas, artefactos explosivos de construcción artesanal (cocteles molotov), chalecos antibalas, mirillas telescópicas y uniformes de camuflaje”.

Asimismo, dio cuenta de “detención en el territorio nacional del ciudadano Duniel Hernández Santos, enviado desde los Estados Unidos para garantizar la recepción de la infiltración armada, quien en estos momentos se encuentra confeso de sus acciones”.

Incidente

El incidente se produjo en la mañana de este miércoles, cuando las autoridades cubanas detectaron “una lancha rápida infractora dentro de las aguas territoriales cubanas con matrícula de la Florida, Estados Unidos, con folio FL7726SH”.

Según el Ministerio, la embarcación se aproximó al cayo Falcones, en el municipio de Corralillo, provincia Villa Clara (centro de Cuba) donde se le aproximó una unidad con cinco integrantes de las Tropas Guardafronteras “para su identificación”.
A continuación, “desde la lancha infractora se abrió fuego contra los efectivos cubanos”, que a su vez respondieron también con disparos, según el relato de Interior.

El incidente se produce en medio de una fuerte tensión entre Estados Unidos y Cuba, luego de que Washington impusiera un asedio petrolero a la isla e instara a La Habana a alcanzar un acuerdo.

En los últimos años se han reportado varios incidentes de este tipo, los dos últimos en 2022, con varios muertos. En general estos casos están relacionados con intentos de sacar de forma irregular a personas de la isla.

Cuba claims that the occupants of the intercepted speedboat had “terrorist intentions”

According to a previous statement from Cuban authorities, the speedboat had entered territorial waters illegally. Its crew members began firing on the Border Guard Troops vessel, which unsuccessfully attempted to stop them for identification.

Four of the speedboat’s crew members were killed by Cuban forces, and the other six were wounded. A Cuban officer also required medical attention.

The Ministry of the Interior indicated that all the wounded are Cuban residents of the US. It also reported the seizure of “assault rifles, handguns, improvised explosive devices (Molotov cocktails), bulletproof vests, telescopic sights, and camouflage uniforms.”

Among the wounded, Amijail Sánchez González and Leordan Enrique Cruz Gómez stood out; the Cuban government had already included them on its terrorist list.

Specifically, both were listed as individuals “under criminal investigation” and wanted for their “involvement in the promotion, planning, organization, financing, support, or commission of acts of terrorism carried out within the national territory or in other countries.”

Conrado Galindo Sariol, José Manuel Rodríguez Castelló, Cristian Ernesto Acosta Guevara, and Roberto Azcorra Consuegra were also identified among the wounded.

Furthermore, Cuban authorities identified Michel Ortega Casanova, also a Cuban resident of the United States, as one of the four deceased, while investigations continue into the identities of the other three.

The Ministry of the Interior also reported the seizure of “assault rifles, handguns, improvised explosive devices (Molotov cocktails), bulletproof vests, telescopic sights, and camouflage uniforms.”

It also reported the “arrest in Cuban territory of Duniel Hernández Santos, sent from the United States to facilitate the reception of the armed infiltration, who has now confessed to his actions.”

Incident

The incident occurred on Wednesday morning when Cuban authorities detected “an illegal speedboat within Cuban territorial waters, registered in Florida, USA, with the registration number FL7726SH.”

According to the Ministry, the vessel approached Falcones Cay, in the municipality of Corralillo, Villa Clara province (central Cuba), where a unit with five members of the Border Guard Troops approached it “for identification.” Then, “fire was opened from the offending vessel against the Cuban personnel,” who in turn returned fire, according to the Interior Ministry’s account.

The incident comes amid heightened tensions between the United States and Cuba, following Washington’s imposition of an oil embargo on the island and its calls for Havana to reach an agreement.
