El héroe del atentado de Sídney recibió una donación de más de 2 millones de dólares

(LPL/EN) – Ahmed al Ahmed, el héroe de origen sirio que el pasado domingo desarmó a uno de los autores del atentado de Sídney contra la comunidad judía, recibió una donación de 2,1 millones de dólares estadounidenses mientras se recupera de heridas de bala en un hospital del sur de la ciudad.
“¿Me lo merezco?”, preguntó postrado en su camilla cuando le entregaron el cheque, procedente de donaciones voluntarias de unas 44.000 personas mediante la conocida plataforma de financiación colectiva GoFundMe.
Así lo muestra un video compartido este viernes por el encargado de darle el talón, el influencer Zachery Dereniowski, que difunde actos caritativos en redes sociales.
Padre de dos hijos y propietario de una frutería, Ahmed se escondió detrás de unos vehículos y sorprendió a uno de los atacantes, con quien forcejeó hasta arrebatarle el rifle con el que disparaba contra un grupo que celebraba la festividad judía de Janucá en la popular playa de Bondi, una de las más concurridas y turísticas de Australia.
Un total de 16 personas perdieron la vida en el atentado, entre ellos una niña de 10 años de edad, un superviviente del holocausto y el hombre desarmado por Ahmed.
“En un momento de caos y peligro, Ahmed al Ahmed dio un paso al frente sin dudarlo. Sus acciones fueron desinteresadas, instintivas e innegablemente heroicas, sin importarle su propia seguridad. Los primeros informes indican que recibió dos disparos mientras protegía a otros”, señalaron los organizadores de la recoleta de donaciones.

Una pareja de judíos, Boris y Sofia Gurman, también intentó detener el ataque, relacionado con la ideología del Estado Islámico por el primer ministro australiano Anthony Albanese, pero ambos murieron en el intento.

Albanese destacó esta semana la heroicidad de los tres y visitó a Ahmed al Ahmed al hospital, a quien llamó “un verdadero héroe australiano”.
Los presuntos perpetradores del atentado terrorista quedaron identificados como padre e hijo: Sajid Akram, de 50 años de edad, y Naveed Akram, de 24, de origen indio.

(LPL/EN) – Ahmed al-Ahmed, the Syrian-born hero who disarmed one of the perpetrators of the Sydney bombing targeting the Jewish community last Sunday, received a donation of $2.1 million while recovering from gunshot wounds in a hospital in the south of the city.

“Do I deserve this?” he asked, lying on his hospital bed, as he was presented with the check, which came from voluntary donations from some 44,000 people through the popular crowdfunding platform GoFundMe.

A father of two and owner of a fruit stand, Ahmed hid behind some vehicles and surprised one of the attackers. He struggled with the man until he managed to wrest the rifle from him, which the attacker was using to fire at a group celebrating the Jewish holiday of Hanukkah on Bondi Beach, one of Australia’s busiest and most popular tourist destinations.

A total of 16 people lost their lives in the attack, including a 10-year-old girl, a Holocaust survivor, and the man disarmed by Ahmed.

“In a moment of chaos and danger, Ahmed al-Ahmed stepped forward without hesitation. His actions were selfless, instinctive, and undeniably heroic, with no regard for his own safety. Initial reports indicate that he was shot twice while protecting others,” said the organizers of the fundraising campaign.

A Jewish couple, Boris and Sofia Gurman, also tried to stop the attack, which Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese linked to the ideology of the Islamic State, but both died in the attempt.

Albanese praised the heroism of the three this week and visited Ahmed al-Ahmed in the hospital, calling him “a true Australian hero.”

The alleged perpetrators of the terrorist attack have been identified as a father and son: Sajid Akram, 50, and Naveed Akram, 24, of Indian origin.
