The lack of success in carrying out the campaign of retaliation desired by Trump has not always been due to a lack of trying. The Department of Justice had secured formal charges against former FBI Director James Comey and New York Attorney General Letitia James, but both were dismissed after a judge ruled that the prosecutor was acting unlawfully.
