Funcionario de Mississippi anuncia acuerdo con ICE para apoyar en labores migratorias

(LPL) – El auditor estatal de Mississippi, Shad White, anunció este martes que su oficina firmó un acuerdo de cooperación con el Servicio de Inmigración y Control de Aduanas de Estados Unidos (ICE, por sus siglas en inglés).

El convenio permitirá que agentes de la Oficina del Auditor del Estado (OSA) reciban capacitación y aprobación de ICE para ejecutar funciones de aplicación de la ley migratoria dentro del estado, en caso de que se requiera.

“Los agentes de ICE y la administración Trump están trabajando arduamente para detener la inmigración ilegal, y necesitan a todos los oficiales de la ley dispuestos a ayudar”, expresó White en un comunicado. “Dos agentes de mi oficina se ofrecieron voluntariamente para ser entrenados en la aplicación de la ley migratoria y asistir a ICE cuando haga falta, y estamos agradecidos por la oportunidad de servir de esta manera”, agregó.

De acuerdo con lo informado, los agentes de la OSA que participen en este programa mantendrán como tarea principal las investigaciones criminales sobre el mal uso de fondos públicos, pero ahora también estarán disponibles para apoyar a ICE en situaciones de emergencia.

White recordó que, según estimaciones de su oficina, la inmigración ilegal le cuesta a los contribuyentes de Mississippi cerca de 100 millones de dólares al año en gastos de educación pública, atención médica y justicia penal. “Si podemos hacer algo para detener esto apoyando a ICE, lo haremos”, concluyó.

Mississippi State Auditor Announces Agreement with ICE to Assist in Immigration Enforcement

(LPL) – Mississippi State Auditor Shad White announced Tuesday that his office has signed a cooperation agreement with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

The agreement allows agents from the Office of the State Auditor (OSA) to receive training and authorization from ICE to carry out immigration enforcement duties in Mississippi if needed.

“ICE agents and the Trump administration are working hard to stop illegal immigration, and they need every law enforcement officer willing to assist,” White said in a statement. “Two agents from my office volunteered to be trained in immigration law enforcement and to assist ICE whenever they are short-handed, and we are grateful for the opportunity to serve in this way,” he added.

According to the announcement, OSA agents participating in the program will continue focusing on their primary responsibility—conducting criminal investigations into the misuse of public funds—but will now also be available to support ICE during emergencies.

White noted that, according to his office’s estimates, illegal immigration costs Mississippi taxpayers around $100 million per year in public education, healthcare, and criminal justice expenses. “If we can do anything to stop this by helping ICE, we will do it,” he concluded.
