Vecindarios 901 repudia arrestos de una voluntaria y una pareja hispana por parte de agentes federales

(LPL) – María Oceja, coordinadora de la organización local Vecindarios 901 repudió un operativo que se llevó a cabo la noche del martes en el área de Hickory Hill donde agentes de distintas agencias del gobierno arrestaron a una pareja hispana durante una parada de tráfico y además, a una voluntaria, que “solo estaba haciéndole preguntas a los federales”.

Oceja indicó que la voluntaria, que es estadounidense, se encontraba en la zona haciendo un recorrido cuando recibieron la notificación del arresto de la pareja. “Ella solo fue a documentar todo y desde un principio los agentes se mostraron agresivos. En un punto le pidieron que se alejara a 25 pies de distancia y cuando ella ya lo había hecho e iba a volver a su auto, otros oficiales la derribaron por detrás, la tiraron al piso y la detuvieron”, indicó. “Eso es una muestra más de la agenda antiinmigrante y racista”, indicó.

En cuanto a la parera, Oceja reseño que todavía no tienen información de su paradero, solo que desafortunadamente sus hijos tuvieron que quedarse solos en su casa.

Con respecto a la voluntaria, la directiva indicó que se encuentra detenida en la cárcel de mujeres pero todavía no sabes qué cargos enfrentará.

Aunque la cifra de detenidos por ICE o arrestos “administrativos” en Memphis no ha sido publicada por el “Safe Task Force” desde el pasado 15 de octubre, Oceja indicó que Vecindarios901 tiene conocimiento de más de 300 personas desde el pasado 29 de septiembre.

Vecindarios 901 Condemns Arrest of Volunteer and Hispanic Couple by Federal Agents

(LPL/EN) – María Oceja, coordinator of the local organization Neighborhood901, condemned an operation carried out Tuesday night in the Hickory Hill area where agents from various government agencies arrested a Hispanic couple during a traffic stop, as well as a volunteer who “was only asking the federal agents questions.”

Oceja stated that the volunteer, who is American, was in the area conducting a survey when they received notification of the couple’s arrest. “She was just documenting everything, and from the beginning, the agents were aggressive. At one point, they asked her to step back 25 feet, and when she had done so and was about to return to her car, other officers tackled her from behind, threw her to the ground, and arrested her,” she said. “This is yet another example of the anti-immigrant and racist agenda,” she stated.

Regarding the couple, Oceja noted that they still have no information on their whereabouts, only that unfortunately their children had to stay home alone.

As for the volunteer, the director indicated that she is being held in the women’s jail, but they still don’t know what charges she will face.

Although the number of people detained by ICE or “administrative” arrests in Memphis has not been published by the Safe Task Force since October 15, Oceja indicated that Vecindarios901 is aware of more than 300 people since September 29.
