Trump cancela contrato con Arquidiócesis católica de Miami para cuidado de niños migrantes

(LPL/EN) – El gobierno del presidente de Estados Unidos, Donald Trump, canceló un contrato millonario con una organización benéfica de la Iglesia Católica en Miami, Florida, dedicada a albergar y cuidar a niños migrantes que ingresan solos a los Estados Unidos, con lo que pone fin a una relación de décadas.
La Oficina de Reasentamiento de Refugiados (ORR), una agencia del del Departamento federal de Salud y Servicios Humanos (HHS), canceló el contrato con la oficina de Catholic Charities en Miami, que se remontaba a la llegada de los primeros exiliados cubanos al sur de Florida.
El arzobispo Thomas Wenski, de la Arquidiócesis de Miami reconoció en una nota publicada por el Miami Herald, que el gobierno de los Estados Unidos “ha decidido abruptamente poner fin a más de 60 años de relación” con Catholic Charities.

“Los servicios de la Arquidiócesis de Miami para menores no acompañados han sido reconocidos por su excelencia y han servido como modelo para otras agencias en todo el país. El cierre del contrato se da justo en medio de tensiones entre el gobierno de Trump y el papa León XIV y la comunidad católica de Estados Unidos.

El domingo pasado Trump aseguró que el pontífice es un hombre «débil contra el crimen» y «terrible en política exterior», aludiendo a sus críticas sobre Irán y Venezuela.

En un largo mensaje en su red Truth Social, el mandatario instó al pontífice a «concentrarse en ser un gran papa, no un político», porque, aseguró, «está perjudicando a la Iglesia católica».

Tras estas declaraciones Trump publicó en la noche del domingo una imagen que parece ser creada por inteligencia artificial en la que se muestra encarnando a la figura de Jesucristo y aparentemente sanando a un enfermo postrado en una cama.

En respuesta al republicano, León XIV dijo que «no tiene miedo a la administración Trump» y que «seguirá levantando la voz para construir la paz».
Aunque sin citar el nombre de Trump, el papa la ha tachado de inaceptable y ha animado a los fieles a «comunicarse» con los congresistas para pedir paz.

Trump Cancels Contract with Catholic Archdiocese of Miami for Care of Migrant Children

(LPL/EN) – The administration of U.S. President Donald Trump has canceled a multi-million-dollar contract with a Catholic Church charity organization in Miami, Florida—dedicated to housing and caring for migrant children entering the United States alone—thereby bringing an end to a decades-long relationship.
The Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR), an agency within the federal Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), canceled the contract with the Miami branch of Catholic Charities—a partnership that dated back to the arrival of the first Cuban exiles in South Florida.
Archbishop Thomas Wenski of the Archdiocese of Miami acknowledged, in a statement published by the Miami Herald, that the U.S. government “has abruptly decided to end a relationship spanning more than 60 years” with Catholic Charities.

“The Archdiocese of Miami’s services for unaccompanied minors have been recognized for their excellence and have served as a model for other agencies across the country. However… they have been stripped of their funding and will be forced to close within three months,” the Archbishop added.
The termination of the contract comes amidst rising tensions between the Trump administration, the Pope, and the Catholic community in the United States.

Last Sunday, Trump asserted that the Pontiff is a man who is “weak on crime” and “terrible on foreign policy,” alluding to the Pope’s criticisms regarding Iran and Venezuela.

In a lengthy post on his Truth Social platform, the former president urged the Pontiff to “focus on being a great Pope, not a politician,” arguing that he “is hurting the Catholic Church.”

Following these remarks, Trump posted an image on Sunday night—which appears to have been generated by artificial intelligence—depicting himself embodying the figure of Jesus Christ, seemingly healing a sick person lying in a bed. In response to the Republican, Leo XIV stated that he “is not afraid of the Trump administration” and that he “will continue to raise his voice to build peace.”
Although without explicitly naming Trump, the Pope has denounced it as unacceptable and encouraged the faithful to “communicate” with members of Congress to call for peace.
