Hombre hispano acusado de estrangular a una mujer y golpear a miembro de la Guardia Nacional

(LPL) – Un hombre hispano fue arrestado y enfrenta múltiples cargos después de que presuntamente estrangulara y golpeara a una mujer en Memphis, además de agredir a un miembro de la Guardia Nacional que intentaba detenerlo.

El sospechoso fue identificado como Melvin Perez-Lopez, de 32 años, quien fue acusado de agresión agravada por violencia doméstica, agresión doméstica, resistencia al arresto y agresión contra un agente del orden público o socorrista.

De acuerdo con el Departamento de Policía de Memphis (MPD), los hechos ocurrieron la noche del 31 de mayo en la cuadra 4400 de Villawood Drive. Agentes de la policía y miembros de la Guardia Nacional respondieron al lugar alrededor de las 9 p.m. tras recibir un reporte de violencia doméstica.

Los primeros en llegar fueron miembros de la Guardia Nacional, quienes se entrevistaron con la víctima. La mujer les informó que había estado discutiendo con Perez-Lopez dentro de la residencia cuando el hombre presuntamente le colocó las manos alrededor del cuello y comenzó a estrangularla.

Las autoridades indicaron que el sospechoso también golpeó a la mujer en el rostro y la cabeza antes de abandonar el lugar en una camioneta Dodge Ram. La víctima sufrió cortes en los labios y en la parte superior de la cabeza como resultado de la agresión.

Mientras las autoridades aún se encontraban en la escena, Perez-Lopez regresó al área conduciendo por la misma calle, aunque poco después dio la vuelta y se alejó nuevamente. Miembros de la Guardia Nacional comenzaron a seguir el vehículo hasta el área de American Way y Lamar Avenue.

Según la policía, Perez-Lopez salió de la camioneta y entró al estacionamiento de Love’s Truck Stop. Cuando los agentes intentaron detenerlo, el sospechoso presuntamente golpeó a uno de los miembros de la Guardia Nacional. Otros guardias intervinieron y lograron someterlo y detenerlo.

Posteriormente, la víctima identificó a Perez-Lopez como la persona que la había atacado. Durante una entrevista con los investigadores, el acusado admitió haber discutido con la mujer y empujarla, pero negó haberla estrangulado o haber golpeado al miembro de la Guardia Nacional.

Perez-Lopez debía comparecer ante el tribunal este martes. Hasta el momento, no se le había fijado una fianza.

Hispanic Man Accused of Strangling Woman and Striking National Guard Member

The suspect was identified as Melvin Perez-Lopez, 32, who has been charged with aggravated domestic assault, domestic assault, resisting arrest, and assault on a law enforcement officer or first responder.

Authorities stated that the suspect also struck the woman in the face and head before fleeing the scene in a Dodge Ram pickup truck. The victim sustained cuts to her lips and the top of her head as a result of the assault.

While authorities were still at the scene, Perez-Lopez returned to the area, driving down the same street; however, shortly thereafter, he turned around and drove away again. National Guard members began following the vehicle to the area of ​​American Way and Lamar Avenue.

According to police, Perez-Lopez exited the truck and entered the parking lot of a Love’s Truck Stop. When officers attempted to detain him, the suspect allegedly struck one of the National Guard members. Other guards intervened and managed to subdue and arrest him.

Subsequently, the victim identified Perez-Lopez as the person who had attacked her. During an interview with investigators, the defendant admitted to arguing with the woman and pushing her, but denied strangling her or striking the National Guard member.

Perez-Lopez was scheduled to appear in court this Tuesday. As of now, no bail had been set for him.
