Synthetic Kratom and Over $1 Million Seized During Memphis Operation
(LPL) – Authorities seized tens of thousands of packages of synthetic kratom, marijuana products, and more than $1 million in cash during an operation targeting a wholesale distributor in Memphis.
The operation took place on October 1, when agents executed search warrants at two «Novelty King» warehouses located in Memphis and Collierville. Authorities identified the Broad Street business as a suspected major supplier of illegal kratom products distributed to gas stations, convenience stores, and vape shops across West Tennessee.
According to authorities, numerous products that had been chemically created or modified—and which investigators say were accompanied by falsified laboratory test results—were confiscated. Among the seized items were products marketed under names such as «KLAZ,» «Botanical Extract,» and «Cat’s Claw.»
The operation was led by the West Tennessee Violent Crime and Drug Task Force, with support from local, state, and federal agencies.
Task force director Johnie Carter emphasized that the operation targets synthetic and chemically manipulated kratom, not traditional kratom leaves.
State law, which took effect on July 1, establishes criminal penalties for the possession, manufacture, distribution, and sale of kratom under certain circumstances. Possession can constitute a Class A misdemeanor, while sale or distribution can constitute a Class C felony.
The investigation is ongoing, and authorities have not yet publicly announced any arrests related to this operation.
